Message from the CEO...

Greetings!,

Good Morning.

This past Monday, the Agency Executives who serve on the Safety & Security Committee met to continue the important dialogue of ensuring the safety and security of the Weinberg Jewish Community Campus. Thanks to the collaboration of my colleagues; Ivy Harlev/Siegel JCC, Dory Zatuchni/Jewish Family Services of Delaware and Jeremy Winaker/Albert Einstein Academy. We also extend our appreciation to Jordan Smith/Sodexo who manages our community campus.

On Tuesday evening, our Community Journey to Israel participants gathered at the home of Lisa Dadone-Weiner & Henry Weiner. There are 25 Delawareans attending our journey beginning November 3rd in our sister city of Arad and will culminate with the Jewish Federations of North America's General Assembly, from November 10th-12th in Jerusalem.

On Wednesday evening, more than 100 women attended the Jewish Women's Gathering at the Siegel JCC featuring Karen Bergreen: comedian, author and stressed-out Mom. Kol hakavod to Katie Glazier and the JWG Committee for organizing such a successful program.

Last night, Federation's Board of Directors met to review and discuss community activites. The Board serves as the governing body responsible for creating and supporting our mission, vision and values. It also ensures Federation maintains a standard of excellence as a trusted and transparent organization. Special thanks to Federation President, Jack Blumenfeld, for his leadership and partnership.

Two of our local beneficiary agencies have upcoming programs that I urge you to attend and support; Jewish Family Services of Delaware is having their REEL Talk Event at the World Cafe Live at the Queen on Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm (VIP Reception begins at 1:00pm) honoring Sonia Schorr Sloan & Gilbert J. Sloan. Click here for more information.

On Monday, October 28th, The Kristol Center for Jewish Life/Hillel Foundation & Jewish Studies at the University of Delaware is celebrating their 20th Anniversary with Keynote Speaker, Abraham Foxman, National Director of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). The lecture begins at 7:00pm and is free and open to the community. Click here for more information.

4 Things To Do About Pew Survey Findings on #JewishAmerica
We Have Power To Reshape the Jewish Future

The Pew Research Center's "Portrait of Jewish Americans" has triggered much debate in the Jewish community. Its key findings - that younger Jews are not only less connected to, but are also less interested in, Jewish life - puts in sharp relief the challenge before us. If we go by numbers alone, the non-Orthodox American Jewish community is facing an existential crisis. The study clearly demonstrates that we stand at an urgent crossroads for American Jewry, and presents us with a major opportunity. Our communal leadership must seize upon it with renewed vigor and focus.

CTeen Session
Tuesday, November 5
Siegel JCC

7:00-8:30 PM

The Delaware Jewish teen community launched CTeen at a Kickoff Event at the Siegel JCC this past Tuesday night. The focus of the night was centered around borders. Borders and boundaries can seem restrictive and limiting, but in truth they protect, preserve and help us to define who we truly are. The more special something is, the more boundaries are necessary for it. This is true in all aspects of life - business, school, sports teams, phones, Judaism, family, and more. As a clear example of this we focused on the soldiers in the IDF, who lead very structured and restricted lives, as this enables them to be the best fighters possible to protect the Jewish homeland. In support of the soldiers' daily sacrifices, commitment and courage, CTeen came together to create a video of support to send to the soldiers in Israel to lift their spirits and show our appreciation for all that they do. Click here to enjoy the video and see how the teens of Delaware are making a difference in the world.

CTeen meets 2 times a month and focuses on social, educational and humanitarian causes, developing a sense of connection and pride in Judaism, and instilling a self confidence in the ability to give back to others. For more information please go to ChabadDE.com/CTeen.

The next CTeen session will be on November 5th from 7:00-8:30 pm at the Siegel JCC.

This program is partially funded by the Jewish Education Committee of the Jewish Federation of Delawa
