NEWS & NOTES
Federation's weekly e-news to keep you informed, inspired and connected to Jewish life in Delaware and the Brandywine Valley.

Message from the CEO...

Greetings!,

Good Morning.

Welcome to our special edition of J-VOICE. In observance of Sukkot, we are sending our weekly e-news today instead of Friday. Please note that the Federation offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

Although this is a short work week, our community has remained quite busy. Federation held its first Executive Committee and Board of Directors meeting last night under the leadership of President, Jack Blumenfeld. We welcomed Lou Feldstein who facilitated, "The Roles & Responsibilities of an Effective Board."

Later this morning, more than 40 community leaders representing our five beneficiary agencies and area synagogues will be joining us for, "The Secret to Strategic Philanthropy", facilitated by Lou Feldstein and presented by Federation. This collaboration is another example that TOGETHER We Do Extraordinary Things.

Later today I have the distinct pleasure and honor of attending a meeting with Mr. Mort Mandel, a philanthropist and author of the book, It's All About Who. Our community is privileged to have Mr. Mandel's support of several leadership development initiatives including Federation's Emerging Leadership Project (ELP). He believes that a life without meaning, purpose and commitment isn't a life at all. The essence of great leadership is having the conviction that a single individual has the power to change the world. Thanks to Richard Stat for connecting us to Mr. Mandel and ensuring our strong and vibrant relationship.

Please be reminded of our community concert with MOSHAV on Thursday, October 10th at the beautiful World Cafe Live at the Queen in downtown Wilmington. This is the band's first appearance in the First State and Federation is pleased to bring this innovative artist to Delaware. To purchase General Admission tickets ($18) click here. For VIP tickets ($50) click here which include premiere balcony seating, open bar, appetizers, commemorative poster and a special Meet & Greet with MOSHAV. Thanks to Marci and Andy Aerenson for chairing this special evening of music, culture and connection.

Community Journey to Israel
Mission and General Assembly
November 3-13, 2013
Chairs, Lisa Dadone-Weiner and Henry Weiner

Immediately ahead of the 2013 General Assembly in Jerusalem, the Delaware Jewish community will journey to Israel for an amazing mission that will reveal Israel in a new way, forge special connections to the land and people, and provide a deeper understanding of the important work of Federation.

We will then join the GA, where thousands of current and emerging Jewish leaders hear from world-class speakers and learn from each other to shape an even brighter future for Israel and the Jewish people.

Travel dates are November 3rd - November 13th, 2013

For this trip, we are fortunate to have Itai Tennanbaum as our guide. Itai was the guide for our community mission to Israel in 1999, and he is well known for making the journey in Israel an emotional, spiritual and educational adventure.
