Message from the CEO...

Greetings!,

Good Morning.

On Monday, our Federation participated in a Partnership2Gether (P2G) Steering Committee meeting at Rutgers University along with our five New Jersey Federation partners who skyped with our colleagues in Arad, Israel. Special thanks to P2G Chair, Robin Karol-Eng, and Federation Board Member, Michelle Margules, who attended this important meeting and represented our community. Later that evening, I was fortunate to attend a special unplugged performance from MOSHAV at the World Cafe Live in Philadelphia. Federation will be bringing MOSHAV to the World Cafe Live at the Queen in Wilmington on Thursday, October 10th (see information below). Special thanks to Marci and Andy Aerenson for serving as Event Chairs.

On Wednesday morning, Federation's Create A Jewish Legacy team met with community partners for an interactive session. Under the leadership of CJL Chair, Richard Levine and CJL Manager, Andrea Bock, this important initiative will ensure our community's future.

Sirens were heard throughout the Galilee on Thursday, as three rockets were fired from Lebanon into Northern Israel in the Nahariya area. Two rockets fell in open unpopulated areas; one rocket was intercepted by the "Iron Dome" anti-rocket system. No injuries or damage were reported. A few civilians suffering from shock were admitted to hospitals.

Last night, I attended Freshman Fest at the University of Delaware not only as Federation's CEO but also as a proud parent. More than 160 incoming Jewish freshman are participating in this special two-day program sponsored by UD Hillel. Congratulations to Executive Director, Ronit Sherwin, President, Steve Eidelman, as well as the entire UD Hillel Board and staff.

Shabbat Shalom,

Jordan and Israel will trade water in new venture

(JNS.org)  Jordanian Prime Minister Abdalla Ensour and his cabinet approved a new plan to trade water with Israel.  In a new Red Sea desalination project expected to cost $1 billion, Jordan will sell part of the resulting water to Israel in exchange for water from the Tiberias reservoir. Middle East countries are known to face chronic water shortages.

"We will sell Israel water at a rate of JD1 per cubic metre and buy from them at a rate of JD0.3 per cubic metre. This process will save us the effort and cost of conveying water from the south to the northern governorates," Ensour said, the Jordan Times reported. According to Jordanian Minister of Water and Irrigation Hazem Nasser, the agreement is legal based on Article 2 of the peace treaty signed with Israel in 1994, and is of "strategic national interest" to Jordan.

Community Journey to Israel
Mission and General Assembly
November 3-13, 2013
Chairs, Lisa Dadone-Weiner and Henry Weiner

Immediately ahead of the 2013 General Assembly in Jerusalem, the Delaware Jewish community will journey to Israel for an amazing mission that will reveal Israel in a new way, forge special connections to the land and people, and provide a deeper understanding of the important work of Federation.

We will then join the GA, where thousands of current and emerging Jewish leaders hear from world-class speakers and learn from each other to shape an even brighter future for Israel and the Jewish people.

Travel dates are November 3-November 13, 2013

For this trip, we are fortunate to have Itai Tennanbaum as our guide. Itai was the guide for our community mission to Israel in 1999, and he is well known for making the journey in Israel an emotional, spiritual and educational adventure.
