On Monday I joined Israel & Overseas Chair, Robin Karol-Eng, and Federation Outreach Director, Roberta Matz, for a Partnership2Gether ( P2G) Steering Committee meeting in Cherry Hill, NJ. Other attending professional and lay leadership from our New Jersey partners including Atlantic and Cape May Counties, Orange County, Greater Metrowest, and Cherry Hill. The living bridges our partnership has created with the municipalities of Arad/Tamar are life changing and evolving. On Tuesday, our community hosted three of our P2G representatives from Arad who shared with us the many program achievements and accomplishments that are a direct result of our community's valued support. We also discussed and brainstormed additional opportunities of linking Delaware and Arad through people to people connections. This was also provided an excellent platform for discussing a proposed " Delaware/Arad Day" itinerary during our Community Journey to Israel, November 3-13, 2013.
Other meetings this week included Federation's Finance Committee under the leadership of Treasurer, Bill Wagner, and Assistant Treasurer, Mitch Steinberg; Community Journey to Israel Committee with Chair, Lisa Dadone-Weiner; and Federation Board of Directors led by President, Robin Kauffman Saran. Please note that the Federation offices will be closing early on Monday, March 25th and will reopen on Thursday, March 28th in observance of Passover. We will have an abbreviated e-dition of J-VOICE next Friday as well.

Halina Wind Preston Holocaust Education Center
Garden of the Righteous Gentiles Rededication
Sunday, April 7th at 3:00PM

Eva Fogelman, co-founder of the Jewish Foundation for Christian Rescuers and author of Conscience and Courage: Rescuers of Jews During the Holocaust, will be the featured speaker at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the rededication of the Garden of the Righteous Gentiles at the Bernard and Ruth Siegel Jewish Community Center.
The garden, the first monument outside Jerusalem to Christians who saved the lives of Jews in Nazi-occupied Europe, contains trees originally planted in 1981 by Holocaust survivors residing in Delaware. Three decades of exposure to the elements took their toll, but the garden has been restored by its original landscape architect, Robert Grenfell, and the Halina Wind Preston Holocaust Education Committee.
A new tree will be dedicated by the family of Rachel and Todd Harad in memory of Andree and Suzanne Romain, two sisters who hid Rachel's father, Charles Rojer, and 12 other Jewish children in Belgium.
This historic event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the ceremony.

Halina Wind Preston Holocaust Education Center
YOM HASHOAH - Annual Holocaust Day of Remembrance
Monday, April 8th at noon
Carvel State Building, Wilmington
This year's theme for Yom HaShoah is, Never Again: Heeding the Warning Signs. The keynote speaker will be Susan Bendetz Plitt.
Susan was born in Budapest, Hungary and was a young child during the Holocaust. She and her mother ran from hiding place to hiding place in order to survive. Susan now resides in Delaware and will be speaking publicly of her family's history for the first time, at this event. After the formal program, prayers will be offered at the Holocaust Memorial, just outside the State Office Building.
Yom HaShoah is sponsored by the Halina Wind Preston Holocaust Education Center, in partnership with The Jewish Federation of Delaware and The Delaware Rabbinical and Cantor's Association.
The event is free and open to the public.

TEEN TRIP TO THE U.S. HOLOCAUST MUSEUM
Sunday, April 14th 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Charter Bus Pick-ups at the Siegel JCC and Temple Beth El
Thanks to the Jewish Federation of Delaware's Jewish Education Committee,area  teens (grades 8-12) are invited and encouraged to attend a charter bus trip to the United States Holocaust Museum on Sunday, April 14th. A bus will pick-up teens at the Siegel JCC in Wilmington and Temple Beth El in Newark en route to Washington D.C. for a day of learning, understanding and appreciation.
Please RSVP online in order to ensure a seat on the bus as there are only a limited number of seats available. A boxed kosher lunch will also be provided.

June will share her book, Recipes Remembered: A Celebration of Survival, which explores both the recipes and the stories of Holocaust survivors. Event Co-Chairs: Lisa Dadone-Weiner Jodi Cohen Cost: $60 per person This event is open to all women making a minimum $100 tax-deductible gift to the 2013 Annual Campaign.

An Evening of Comedy with Rabbi Bob Alper

What's Jewish About Breast and Ovarian Cancer? Sunday, March 24th 9:00 - 10:30 AM Congregation Beth Emeth  Please join us for a very important presentation on genetic risk factors for breast and ovarian cancer. One in 40 Ashkenazi Jews carries a gene mutation that causes a drastically increased risk for these cancers. Our speakers will be Stephanie Kaplan, a member of Kesher Israel in West Chester, PA, and Rebecca Mueller, a genetic counselor from the University of Pennsylvania. Stephanie discovered that she has this gene mutation, which led her to make some very difficult decisions to protect her health. There is no charge for this program. Hadassah Yiddish Education Program Harvesting Yiddishkeit at the Yiddish Farm Wednesday, April 3, 2013 7:00 PM Siegel JCC Auditorium  Yiddish is often called Mamaloshen - the mother tongue. Perhaps Yiddish was the language of your parents or grandparents. Perhaps it brings back warm memories of family and friends. And who doesn't enjoy the Yiddishisms sprinkled in TV shows and movies? Good news. Yiddish is making a comeback.
Wilmington Hadassah presents an insightful talk by Naftali Ejdelman, co-founder and operator of The Yiddish Farm in upstate New York. This 225-acre working farm grows organic crops but is also cultivating a new crop of Yiddish speakers by offering summer-long, workcamp experiences, where only Yiddish is spoken. Ejdelman calls it "Yiddish Land." Ask him what Hock mir nisht kein chinek means.

BBYO Central Region East WOW Convention Weekend of April 19th-21st Siegel JCC 
The Wilmington Chapter of BBYO is looking for host families to house teens the weekend of April 19th-21st. Responsibilities of a host family include: - Housing the teen on Friday and Saturday night of the convention
- Providing Saturday morning breakfast, Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast
- Abiding by BBYO's Zero Tolerance policies: No house parties after Friday or Saturday night programming, No teen use of tobacco, drugs or alcohol
- Transporting teens to and from the JCC
- Return to the JCC on Sunday morning.
