March 2013
|
Earlier this week, Federation went to press on the March 2013 edition of the Jewish VOICE which is our special expanded 44-page Passover edition. Please look for mailed copies early next week and you can also view our digital online edition by clicking on the cover image.
Tonight, more than 100 young adults throughout our community will gather at nine host homes to participate in Shabbat for 100. What a wonderful response for our first-time Young Leadership Division event that engages young adults in a meaningful and memorable way.
And tomorrow evening our community will come together to honor and celebrate Albert Einstein Academy's Head of School, Michal Cherin, at their sold out AEA Gala. It has been a sincere privilege having the opportunity to learn and be inspired by Michal. Her warmth and passion for teaching has made an indelible impression on our children and our community.
With the strength of a people and the power of community, we are Improving Our World...TOGETHER.
Shabbat Shalom

Jewish Federation-supported programs engage college students in Jewish life. According to a recent survey, in 2012, 48 percent of Jewish college students in the United States were involved in Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, an agency partner of Jewish Federations. That number is up significantly from just 34 percent in 2005. Learn more about Hillel's approach to growing student involvement.
The Kristol Center for Jewish Life/Hillel Foundation at the University of Delaware Hillel is a beneficiary agency of Jewish Federation of Delaware. To learn more about UD Hillel, please click here.

An Evening of Comedy with Rabbi Bob Alper
Saturday, March 23rd 7:00 PM
Congregation Beth Shalom
Rabbi Bob Alper is the world's only practicing rabbi doing stand-up comedy...intentionally. There's a reason why XM/Sirius satellite radio plays Rabbi Bob Alper's bits several times daily, often sandwiched between Bob Newhart and Bill Cosby. For one, his unique background. As an ordained rabbi with a doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary, he has served congregations for fourteen years, which has prepared him well for a twenty-three year comedy career with wonderfully unique material presented in a way that's intelligent, sophisticated, and 100% clean.

What's Jewish About Breast and Ovarian Cancer? Sunday, March 24th 9:00 - 10:30 AM Congregation Beth Emeth Please join us for a very important presentation on genetic risk factors for breast and ovarian cancer. One in 40 Ashkenazi Jews carries a gene mutation that causes a drastically increased risk for these cancers. Our speakers will be Stephanie Kaplan, a member of Kesher Israel in West Chester, PA, and Rebecca Mueller, a genetic counselor from the University of Pennsylvania. Stephanie discovered that she has this gene mutation, which led her to make some very difficult decisions to protect her health. There is no charge for this program. A Kosher-style breakfast will be available for purchase at the Kishka Café. Register by emailing Laurie Ross at rossle@comcast.net.
