|
The Jewish Federation of Delaware plays a unique role in building a vibrant Jewish community here in Delaware and the Brandywine Valley, in Israel and around the world.
Together with our generous supporters, we work to make our community and the world a better place by acting on our core Jewish values of compassion, charity, generosity and responsibility to care for those in need.
For more than 75 years, we have worked to meet the most important needs of the community with sound investments, real transparency and complete integrity.
Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment in building community.
With the strength of a people and the power of community, we are Improving Our World...TOGETHER.

Jewish Federation-supported programs offer extracurricular opportunities for Israel's underprivileged youth. The
Ethiopian National Project (ENP) provides Ethiopian-Israeli teens with positive role models and leadership-training opportunities through its Youth Outreach Centers in 17 cities around Israel. During the 2011-2012 academic year, participation in the Centers represented the only after-school activity for 74 percent of those in attendance. Learn more about ENP's Youth Outreach Centers. Jewish Federation of Delaware specifically supports an ENP Youth Outreach Center in our Partnership2Gether community of Arad.

Young Leadership Division's
SHABBAT for 100
Friday, March 1st
Various Homes throughout the Community
Federation's Young Leadership Division's Shabbat for 100 is matching hosts with guests for shared Shabbat meals across Delaware and the Brandywine Valley. "A shared Shabbat meal is one of the best ways to get to know other people, and opening your home to people you may or may not know on Shabbat is a long-held Jewish tradition" says Adriana Mann, who is helping to plan this event for the first time, along with Jennifer Steinberg, Gina Schoenberg and Karen Legum. "When we share a meal with new people around a familiar ritual, we already feel that we share something with them innate to being Jewish - the conversation flows easier, and the connections we make feel closer."
Shabbat for 100 will take place in homes around the community and across communal boundaries as well. The hosts are not only people with a connection to YLD, but also people involved with Adas Kodesch Shel Emeth, Albert Einstein Academy, Beth Shalom Congregation, Chabad Lubavitch of Delaware, Congregation Beth Emeth, Hillel, Siegel JCC and Temple Beth El of Newark. Meals range from potluck to fully prepared dinners, and there are hosts that can accommodate all kinds of kashrut needs and vegetarian eaters.
To register as a guest for Shabbat for 100, click here. Deadline is today. There is no cost to attend.

An Evening of Comedy with Rabbi Bob Alper
Saturday, March 23rd 7:00 PM
Congregation Beth Shalom
Rabbi Bob Alper is the world's only practicing rabbi doing stand-up comedy...intentionally. There's a reason why XM/Sirius satellite radio plays Rabbi Bob Alper's bits several times daily, often sandwiched between Bob Newhart and Bill Cosby. For one, his unique background. As an ordained rabbi with a doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary, he has served congregations for fourteen years, which has prepared him well for a twenty-three year comedy career with wonderfully unique material presented in a way that's intelligent, sophisticated, and 100% clean.

What's Jewish About Breast and Ovarian Cancer? Sunday, March 24th 9:00 - 10:30 AM Congregation Beth Emeth Please join us for a very important presentation on genetic risk factors for breast and ovarian cancer. One in 40 Ashkenazi Jews carries a gene mutation that causes a drastically increased risk for these cancers. Our speakers will be Stephanie Kaplan, a member of Kesher Israel in West Chester, PA, and Rebecca Mueller, a genetic counselor from the University of Pennsylvania. Stephanie discovered that she has this gene mutation, which led her to make some very difficult decisions to protect her health. There is no charge for this program. A Kosher-style breakfast will be available for purchase at the Kishka Café. Register by emailing Laurie Ross at rossle@comcast.net.
