Greetings!
Greetings!

Making my way around the many involvement fairs, meetings, and events these past couple of weeks, I've enjoyed meeting many new people myself, but also seeing other people connect. Indeed, one of my favorite things about the beginning of the year is seeing connections being made. They pave the way for new possibilities, new opportunities, new friendships. I'm excited for what these connections will bring this year! If you're thinking about checking out an organization or event, I highly encourage you to check it out, and bring a friend!

Most people who know me know that I love the arts, so I do want to draw the attention of all you singers and dancers out there who might be seeking an artistic outlet to the auditions that are coming up this week and next! A number of them are listed below.

Additionally, if you are an undergraduate or graduate student looking for a paid internship this year, check out the post below describing an open position with OSU's Middle East Studies Center. If you're interested, make sure to get your application in by next Monday, September 9th.

And last, but certainly not least, remember to support our friends as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month throughout the month of September. The Student Life Multicultural Center and partners across campus have a wonderful month planned!

Advancing Justice Conference

Hosted by Asian Americans Advancing Justice, the Advancing Justice Conference
is the first and only national conference that focuses on civil rights and social justice in the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. The conference brings together Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders from across the country to address issues facing these fast growing communities. It serves as a unique forum where stakeholders can learn from other community experts, discuss common challenges and opportunities, share best practices and find ways to work collaboratively. Conference attendees participate in three days of programming, including panel discussions, caucus sessions, skills and capacity building trainings and networking receptions.

Owning Our Stories: Building Our Sisterhood

Whether you're new to campus or returning for your final, triumphant semester, establishing yourself far from home or "from just around the corner"- we hope you'll join us for "Owning Our Stories: Building Our Sisterhood."

Together, Leadership Initiatives for Women of Color and the Student Life Multicultural Center have planned an evening of lighthearted activities to increase your sister circles.  You'll meet others-undergraduates, graduate and professional students, faculty and staff - who are committed to creating safe and supportive spaces for women of color here at OSU.

We'll share information about an entire year of programs focused on women of color and surrounding a common  theme-owning or embracing our truths.  You'll even hear a sneak preview of this year's retreat for women of color-OWN It! Defy Your OBSTACLES, Develop a WINNING Strategy and Discover Your NEXT Great Opportunity.

Of course there will be good music, food and at least two raffles, so you know you'll have a great time!  We hope to see you on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Student Life Multicultural Center.  We'll get started at 5:45pm, but no worries - if you're a little later than that, we'll be there until 7:45pm.

Looking forward to building with you!
