Field Day Volunteers Needed!

Help our entire school be active and have fun! Can you come and help out at this fun outdoor event? 6 more volunteers are needed for Field Day on June 13, 1-3 pm. Adult volunteers will rove around to support the 5th grade station hosts and Mr. Billheimer as needed. Please signup here.
5th Grade Promotion

If you have a 5th grader promoting this Wednesday and another child in grades K-4th, we politely ask that you do not pull the younger student out of school for the promotion ceremony. Every year we struggle with having enough space/seating at the ceremony, plus your younger child will be missing their end of the year traditions in their own class. We agree that having the younger students participate and see this milestone is important. Therefore, as a school we have the 5th graders parade down to the commons before the ceremony and the younger grades line the halls applauding for them and congratulating them on their accomplishment. If however, you still would like to pull your younger child out of school, we ask that you sign them out from the office for the rest of the school day. Thank you.
Time to Order School Supplies for
the 2016-17 School Year!

We are excited to announce the SchoolKidz, Teacher Tailored School Supply Kit Program is now open for ordering! Head to www.shopttkits.com and enter our school number 42513. Make sure to place your order during the sale to take advantage of this easy service! This program will save you time and make back-to-school shopping less of a hassle. SchoolKidz offers brand name products in their kits such as Crayola®, Fiskar's®, Elmer's®, Staples®, and more. Best of all, the kits contain items that have been specifically requested by our teachers for each grade. We believe you will find the pricing to be very reasonable and comparable to what you would spend when driving around from store to store during the back-to-school rush. You'll see paper forms coming home this week for you to review but we will only be accepting online orders directly on the www.shopttkits.com website. Orders much be place by Friday, June 24. Please contact Kelley Johnson with any questions!
2016 Summer Reading Program

Dear Parents,

To help promote summer literacy, we are excited to bring back the Horace Mann Summer Reading Postcard Program. Students will receive two postcards to complete during the summer on Wednesday, June 15. The theme this year goes along with the Summer Olympics. In honor of the Olympics we thought it might be fun to encourage students to participate with the 40 book challenge. For every 10 books your child reads this summer, please have them complete 1 postcard on their favorite book. Students who turn in 2 postcards (read 20 books), they will receive bronze medal status. Students who turn in 3 postcards (read 30 books), they will receive silver medal status. For gold medal status, students will need to complete 4 postcards (read 40 books). Students names will be displayed on the bulletin board outside of the library and they will receive 1 raffle ticket for earning a bronze medal, 2 raffle tickets for earning a silver medal, and 3 raffle tickets for earning a gold medal. Items we are raffling this year include recent books released and (3) Scholastic Book Fair Shopping Sprees ($25.00, $50.00, and $100.00). Students may also make a book recommendation and post a "shelfie" on the Colt Readers Blog. Each blog entry submitted, including a "shelfie" and a recommendation will be entered into a monthly drawing (June-August) for a $15.00 Amazon gift card. One lucky student will be selected from (grades K-2) and (grades 3-5) each month.

Need a book? The Horace Mann Little Library will be open all summer long. We encourage you to stop on by with a book so you can give a book to get a book from the Little Library. We would also like to remind you of the amazing programs offered this summer at the Redmond Library including: Summer Reading, Science Workshops, Playing Games from Around the World, and of course Family Story Time. So, on your mark.....get set.....READ!

Thank you in advance for supporting literacy learning all year long.

Letter from Mr. Maver

Dear Horace Mann Community,

Six years ago I had the privilege of being transferred into Horace Mann. Little did I know at that time that I would forever be grateful to what I have learned and been part of here. I want to extend to everyone that I had the opportunity to work with a sincere thank you.

Next year I will be an Assistant Principal in the Lake Washington School District. I will never forget what I have learned here at Horace Mann and I hope to bring, as the Assistant Principal, my own passion, enthusiasm, and joy for the position. For years I have told every student I have worked with the following statement:

"I am the scariest thing in the world. I am an Administrator who cares." I know that this statement will continue to be true as an administrator.

Sincerely,

Ian Maver

Seeking Volunteers for Enrichment,
Spiritwear and Assemblies

From art to basketball, and coding to foreign languages, our after school enrichment programs introduce students to new interests and provide them opportunities to participate in activities they love. But these programs can't happen without the help of our parent volunteers who make these activities possible.

Planning is already underway for classes for our 2016-2017 school year, and our Enrichment Committee is looking for additional volunteers to help coordinate and oversee these programs. In addition to our Enrichment Committee, other committees also will be gearing up this summer for next year and need volunteers, including our assemblies and spirit wear committees.

If you're interested in more information about the after school enrichment, assemblies, or spirit wear committees, or would like to volunteer, contact Jenn Sutton at jenn.r.farrell@gmail.com.
