Horace Mann SBA Testing Schedule

Click here to see Horace Mann's SBA testing schedule for grades 3-5. The days have been color coded in an attempt to help you easily see what grade levels are testing. Please be sure to use this calendar to plan doctor appointments or vacations accordingly so that your child can be present for their test dates. Remind your child to get a good night of sleep, eat well and try their best.
LWSD Bond Measure on April 26 Ballot

Lake Washington School District has proposed a bond measure to reduce overcrowding and enhance student learning. This measure would raise funds to provide classroom space for 3,000 more students. Projects include two new elementary schools, one new middle school, and rebuilding and enlarging Juanita High School plus Kirk and Mead Elementary Schools. Because the district is paying off past bonds and construction levies, the tax rate would remain the same as the 2015 rate. Complete information on the measure is available at www.lwsd.org. Please remember to vote by April 26.
Knights of the Multiplication Table

Hear ye, Hear ye! Announcing the Knights of the Multiplication Table! It's time for all 3rd grade students to start working hard to learn their multiplication facts so they can join the Royal Order of the Knights of the Multiplication Table! Our royal Mrs. Spaulding knights all students who have completed their multiplication facts through 10. These knighting ceremonies are held once a month starting in February and continue through June. Happy Multiplying!!

Our ceremonies are held on Thursdays at 2:20 pm. The parents of those being knighted are invited to attend. Teachers will notify the student's parent or guardian. The next ceremony is Thursday, April 28.
Coming Soon: New online payment system
for meals - starts April 28

Starting April 28, LWSD will have a new online payment system for student meal accounts. The new system is called "MySchoolBucks." MySchoolBucks will improve the information parents have about their student's accounts and allow you to:
  • Monitor your student's meal history
  • Set up recurring/automatic monthly payments
  • Set low balance alerts
  • Download an app for your mobile phone, allowing you to access your student's account
It will be accessed via Parent Access in the same way you use the current system, by clicking on the "Breakfast and Lunch Payments" link. Additional information about how to use this new system will be available on the launch date.
Parent Input Forms

Staff have begun initial planning for the 2016-17 school year. Parents have an opportunity to share their input on the best educational setting for their child by completing a Parent Input Form. These forms can be picked up in the main office and must be returned by Friday, April 29, for the input to be considered for next year. The due date is firm since planning will start in May.
Staff Appreciation Week will be
from May 2 - 6 this year!

Let's show our Horace Mann Elementary staff members how important they are by spoiling them for the week! Any and all contributions are greatly appreciated.

Click here to find out how you can help!

We'll have a coffee cart at the front entrance on Friday, May 6 from 7:45 to 8:45 am so treat yourself to a cup (and help offset SAW costs...)

Science Fair Pictures and Survey

The owner of Driftwood Portraits graciously volunteered her time to take pictures during this year's science fair. The pictures are too good not to share. Click here to view the pictures.
Also, please help us improve future Science Fairs by taking a few minutes to fill out a short survey here.
Once again, thank you for participating in the Science Fair!
Come one Come All!  The World of Fun International Carnival is coming to
Horace Mann Friday, June 3!
"A World of Fun" is back! This year we are combining Carnival, International Night and Art Night for the biggest event of the year! There will be carnival fun, international displays and art from around the world that the classes have been working on all year!
If you participated in the International Carnival last year, it would be our pleasure if you participated with a display this year, too. If you didn't participate last year, why not make this year the year you introduce your culture to the entire Horace Mann community? Please take a look at the flyer here and fill it out so we can start planning appropriately.

In addition to highlighting the varied cultures here at Mann, we'll also have games, activities and food that you've come to expect at the
carnival - the cake walk, bouncy houses and more will all be there! For questions or to sign up, please contact desireemichael@gmail.com. We can't wait to see you there!
