Seeking Volunteers for Next Year's PTSA Board
Do your kids use IXL? Did they enjoy the movie night and the dance? Do they like the after school classes? We need you to keep these programs running smoothly and keep our school great! The PTSA Nominating Committee is seeking volunteers who would like to take an active role in leading the PTSA as members of the PTSA Board for the 2016-17 school year. Positions are: Co-President, Co-VP of Fundraising, Co-VP of Volunteers and School Services, Co-VP of Enrichment, Co-Treasurer, Co VP of Art and Secretary. This is a great way to support your child's education and get to know other parents at the school. Take a leadership role yourself or nominate someone you know! Watch for the nominating forms, which are being sent home with your student. You may also download a copy of the form from the PTSA website here. Science Assembly and Science Fair Coming Soon
Get your kids ready to put on their lab coats! Alex Zerbe, AKA The Zaniac, will be presenting "Gravity Catastrophe", an assembly with an explosive mix of science, juggling and fun on Tuesday, March 8. We hope this assembly will inspire students to participate in the upcoming Horace Mann Science Fair on March 31, 6-8 pm. More information about the Science Fair coming soon on the Horace Mann PTSA website. Registration for the Science Fair will open March 8.

| Super Sitters Registration - LAST CALL!
Who: 10-12 year old Horace Mann Students (4th & 5th Graders)
When: Friday, March 11, 9 am - 2 pm
Where: Art & Science Room
Fee: $43 per student (Registration Deadline: March 6)
The Super Sitters program is designed to train young people in basic babysitting and home alone skills. Students completing this course will be better prepared to provide a safer and more positive infant/child care experience. Taught by a hospital-qualified instructor (Cindy Tucker), this class includes parent expectations, basic first aid, home and fire safety, Heimlich maneuver, telephone tips, toys and activities and infant care. Participants receive a Babysitting 101 handbook and certification card upon completion of the class.
Be a parent volunteer for the class and your child will have a FREE tuition! We only need one parent volunteer. There is no experience necessary, you will just be taking attendance, and helping the teacher as needed. As a parent volunteer you will also need to be a current PTSA member (you can join on the PTSA website at any time) and a current approved volunteer with the LWSD (applications are available on the LWSD website). The volunteer doesn't need to be the parent, but can also be an adult relative, neighbor, or friend, as long as they are a PTSA member and an approved district volunteer.

Classified Appreciation Week
March 14-18 is CLASSIFIED APPRECIATION WEEK. This is a week to recognize the hard work of our secretaries, custodians and aides. Please take a moment to thank these wonderful staff members this week. Mann would not run smoothly without the hard work and care of these essential staff members. Thank you!

Knights of the Multiplication Table
Hear ye, Hear ye! Announcing the Knights of the Multiplication Table! It's time for all 3rd grade students to start working hard to learn their multiplication facts so they can join the Royal Order of the Knights of the Multiplication Table! Our royal Mrs. Spaulding knights all students who have completed their multiplication facts through 10. These knighting ceremonies are held once a month starting in February and continue through June. Happy Multiplying!!

Mann PTSA Annual School Dance
Round up your family and join us for the Boot Scootin' Boogie!!!
During the week of March 14, your student may come home from school excited for the school dance on Friday, March 18 - and that's because ALL WEEK they will be receiving dance instruction in both their P.E. and music classes specifically so they can dance and have fun at the school dance! Doors open at 6 pm at the gym - please enter through those doors - and the dance will run from 6:30 pm - 8 pm. Presale flyer can be found here!
