Enrichment Survey Closes TONIGHT

Let us know what types of programs you'd like to see included in our After School Enrichment program before the survey closes TONIGHT! Whether you've signed up for After School Enrichment in the past or not, please take five minutes to let us know what types of classes you and your students are most interested in, your reasons for signing up (or not), and anything we can do to make the program work better for you. Five minutes of your time will help us better tailor our program to match the needs of all of our students and families.

Take the survey (from your computer, phone or tablet) here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RVGWKJ2
Disability Awareness Fair - October 26-29

The theme for the Disability Awareness Fair this year is 'We are more alike than different', and presentations will be conducted by parents of our new Learning Center Community. Throughout the week they will be visiting each classroom discussing the many similarities between the general ed students and our learning community students, and teaching them about some of the more common developmental disabilities that students might see at Mann, and in our community.  Please let students know this will be a great opportunity to ask questions of our parent facilitators.  We hope your children will come home excited to share with you what they learned!
Reflections - Last Call!

Reflections Art Contest entries are due on the 29th of October - get your entries in before time runs out!

This program is a wonderful way to encourage your children to participate in the Arts, and a way to be recognized for their artistic talents.  Please encourage your children to create a submittal in one of the following categories:  visual arts, photography, literature, music/composition, choreography/dance, film/video and special artist.

Please note 3-D projects are not being accepted by our Lake Washington School District Council.

For further questions visit the PTSA Horace Mann Reflections Page or contact Liz Holmquist at art@horacemannptsa.org

Parking

During busy times, especially when there are assemblies, parties and field trips, parking becomes a premium at school.  Please consider carpooling or walking in to school during these busy times.  Please do not park in the staff lot as we have several staff who have to go to other schools and come back to Mann during the school day.  Thank you.
2nd Annual Harvest Festival

October 28 from 6-8 pm at Redmond High School

There will be games, treats, and other fun fall activities sponsored by the RHS leadership team! There is a suggested donation of a non-perishable food item as a "ticket" for the event. All donations will go to children in need in the Redmond community.
Harvest Parties

Harvest Parties will be held on Friday, Oct 30th. On this day, students can bring a costume to put on quickly over their clothes. Please remember that:
  • Costumes must be school appropriate (no "scary" costumes)
  • No make-up, masks, or hair paint
  • No weapons
  • All costumes must be worn over school clothes
  • School dress code does apply

Hearing And Vision Screening November 19th - Volunteers Needed!

The yearly hearing and vision screening is happening on Thursday, November 19th and we need your help! The only thing you need to volunteer is to be excited to work with our great students. Please sign up here to volunteer!
Weekly SchoolPool WrapUp!!

We've had great weather so far for Walk to School Month! Hopefully you've had a chance to get outside by walking or biking to school. If so, be sure and add all your walking, biking, carpool, and bus trips to the SchoolPool calendar. If everyone who signed up also adds a trip to the calendar that would raise $1,350 for our PTSA!

Beyond that, you and your student will be able to calculate your impact! The calendar will show you how many pounds of C02 you've reduced, the amount of money saved by not driving, and more.

For instructions on how to add trips to the SchoolPool Calendar, visit the website here

P.S. If you haven't yet signed up for SchoolPool, it's not too late! Sign up here.
"Math is Cool" Contest and Coaching for 4th and 5th Graders

Want your child to try "Math Is Cool" competition on March 18th, 2016?

A Horace Mann Team is being assembled with coaching classes.  To be eligible, a placement test will be administered at the first meeting (TBD).  To sign up to take the placement test and get more details, click here to register.  There are a limited number of spots.

Children will be chosen for the team based on the placement test and availability to attend coaching sessions and the contest.

Coaching sessions will be held on Wednesday's after school at Horace Mann to prepare students.  Similar to Enrichment classes, a parent volunteer(s) is also required.  Without a parent volunteer, this won't happen.

For general information about the competition, visit http://www.academicsarecool.com/index.php
