Reflections 2015-2016: Let Your Imagination Fly

The deadline for Reflections is fast approaching!  Look for post cards that will be sent home this week. The deadline has been extended to Oct. 29th.

This program is a wonderful way to encourage your children to participate in the Arts, and a way to be recognized for their artistic talents.  Please encourage your children to create a submittal in one of the following categories:  visual arts, photography, literature, music/composition, choreography/dance, film/video and special artist.

For further questions visit the PTSA Horace Mann Reflections Page or contact Liz Holmquist at art@horacemannptsa.org
Math Club Monday

Math Club starts Monday, October 19th during lunch recess. Children are invited to come to the Art and Science Room to participate. Sign-ups are not required. Children may come and go as they like. They just sign in when they arrive so we know who is participating.

The usual format is: group problem(s), then either individual problems or small group games. Math Club is optional and for fun! All grades welcome.

Students can obtain Math Contest sample problems to work on and take home.
Popcorn Friday!

Beginning this Friday, October 23rd, 5th grade students will be selling popcorn every other Friday during lunch recesses.  Popcorn will be sold for $.50 per bag.  Money raised will be used towards fifth grade activities.
Service Club

Our first week of Service Club was a success!  Our next meeting will be Oct. 23rd during the first recess, 10:30 to 11:00.

In case you missed the info, Service Club is a way for 4th and 5th graders to be involved in the Mann community.  Permission slips will be required starting on the 23rd of Oct. The following are examples of what the club has done in the past:
  • Center piece crafts donated to a local Senior Center
  • Staff Appreciation
  • Coat/Food Drive
  • Making banners and signs for Horace Mann events
  • Valentine's Post Office
For additional information, please contact Liz Holmquist at lizholmquist@yahoo.com or Vivien Koo at vivien_koo@juno.com

Have an Enrichment Program You'd Like Us to Consider?

Is your student interested in robotics or sports? Dance, art or chess? Something else? Your After School Enrichment volunteers need your input as we work to identify classes and enrichment opportunities that are the greatest interest to you and your students. Whether or not you've signed up for After School Enrichment in the past, please take five minutes to let us know what types of classes you'd like to see, your reasons for signing up (or not), and anything else we can do to make the program work better for you. Five minutes of your time will help us better tailor our program to match the needs of all of our students and families.

Take the survey (from your computer, phone or tablet) hereThe survey will close on October 25.
2nd Annual Harvest Festival

October 28 from 6-8 pm at Redmond High School

There will be games, treats, and other fun fall activities sponsored by the RHS leadership team! There is a suggested donation of a non-perishable food item as a "ticket" for the event. All donations will go to children in need in the Redmond community.
Harvest Parties

Harvest Parties will be held on Friday, Oct 30th. On this day, students can bring a costume to put on quickly over their clothes. Please remember that:
  • Costumes must be school appropriate (no "scary" costumes)
  • No make-up, masks, or hair paint
  • No weapons
  • All costumes must be worn over school clothes
  • School dress code does apply
