Help Mann and Lake Washington Students!

LWSD has more than 450+ students that may not eat on the weekends when federal school meal programs are not available, as explained in a new video. More than 30 LWSD students came together to film this compelling video at Eastlake, Redmond, Juanita and Lake Washington high schools and one elementary school.  Volunteers pack and distribute weekend Pantry Packs so students don't go hungry.  To further sustain and grow the program, Pantry Packs and Feed Washington have collaborated on this viral video campaign to motivate district families to donate $5 each month in a recurring donation to supply more packs. More information and the video can be found at www.feedwashington.org/lwsd.
Get Informed and Vote Smart!
Candidate Forum for LWSD School Board

Thursday, October 15, 7:00-8:30pm, Redmond High School Performing Arts Center

Lake Washington School District is the fastest growing district in Washington State. More jobs, more houses, and more kids means LWSD is inching its way towards being the 4th largest district in the State with just under 28,000 kids. Three seats on Lake Washington School District's School Board are up for election in November, and the time to vote is approaching quickly. Do you know who the candidates are? Do you know what they stand for and what their goals are for our schools and our students? Lake Washington PTSA Council and Emily Dickinson PTSA are sponsoring a candidate forum so our community can get to know the candidates better before the voting deadline. This is a neutral event to which all candidates have been invited.

Whether you're a parent in the district, a business leader, or a community member, the decisions the LWSD School Board will make in the coming years will have an impact on our community. You are all invited to this opportunity to learn where the candidates stand on our most pressing issues, from how the district should face our unprecedented growth to future bond strategies, from the importance of teacher quality to special needs programs, from community engagement plans to strategies for diminishing education opportunity gaps and Common Core implementation.

Don't miss this important evening.

You've got the power...to shape our community's future!

Tell Us What You Like and Want to See From After School Enrichment

Your After School Enrichment volunteers need your input about the classes we offer and what you'd like to see in the future. Whether you've signed up for After School Enrichment in the past or not, please take five minutes to let us know what types of classes you and your students are most interested in, your reasons for signing up (or not), and anything we can do to make the program work better for you. Five minutes of your time will help us better tailor our program to match the needs of all of our students and families.

Take the survey (from your computer, phone or tablet) here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RVGWKJ2

The survey will close on October 25.
Harvest Parties

Harvest Parties will be held on Friday, Oct 30th. On this day, students can bring a costume to put on quickly over their clothes. Please remember that:
  • Costumes must be school appropriate (no "scary" costumes)
  • No make-up, masks, or hair paint
  • No weapons
  • All costumes must be worn over school clothes
  • School dress code does apply
Save the Date for the Spooghetti Dinner!

Friday, October 30 from 6-8PM at Redmond High School

Join us for a fun night of spaghetti, dancing, and games at the Spooghetti Dinner, organized by the Horace Mann PTSA! It is a great way to get more use out of those costumes this year. More information coming soon. Pre-sales start Oct. 19. We hope you can make it!
Earn $ Beat Traffic

Redmond SchoolPool (www.schoolpool.com) is a secure website that tracks the emissions you save when your child walks, bikes, or carpools to Mann. It also connects you with parents in your neighborhood that are interested in walking, biking, or carpooling with you.

Sign up and the PTSA earns $10. Take your first trip and we earn $10 more for our kids. Participating families can win prizes like $25 gas cards.
Horace Mann Transition Team

The Horace Mann Transition Team is group of families that band together to support others at our school who need a little assistance. We all go through hard times and our goal is to be a community that supports community. Together we provide food for families to prepare their own Thanksgiving meal and gift cards for Christmas to those Mann families who are struggling financially. We also help those going through medical or other situations by providing meals, transportation or anything that can help make the situation a little easier. Thank you to those who have already volunteered for this team, we could always use more help!

If you think you would like to be part of this team or want more information, please contact Debi Raines at debi_raines@hotmail.com. If you know a family who is need or your family could use a helping hand, please contact Debi or Ann Glassey in the school office. Together we can make a difference.
