Mann Healthroom Needs Volunteers!
The Mann Healthroom is looking for a few more volunteers to help support our front office staff so they can take their lunch break every day. Volunteering in the healthroom is a fun and fulfilling experience and doesn't require you to have a medical background or knowledge, yet if you have a background or interest in healthcare, this is a wonderful place to use your talents. As volunteers, we mainly give band-aids and ice-packs, take temperatures, call a child's parent if necessary and mostly just give lots of friendly and supportive TLC to the kids. Specifically, help is needed on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:45am to 1:15pm. Most people volunteer once every other week. If you are interested, please contact Teresa Henrikson, Health Room Coordinator at treetjh@hotmail.com. Thank you!

Lois Brandt Author Visit & Food Drive

Horace Mann welcomes local author Lois Brandt on Thursday, September 24, 2015. Lois Brandt, author of Maddie's Fridge will be discussing the topic of diversity and how to be a good friend. She will also be sharing with students her experience as an author.
In honor of Lois Brandt's upcoming visit, we will be hosting a special Food Drive benefiting local families through Hope Link. The Food Drive will take place September 14th-25th. Please join our efforts to help end hunger in our community. Donations may be delivered to your child's classroom where they will be collected and counted by the Horace Mann Student Reading Advisory. According to Hope Link's website, the foods that are most needed include:
- Canned Meals
- Canned Meats
- Cereal
- Dry Beans
- Fruit (Canned)
- Pasta
- Peanut Butter
- Rice
- Soup
- Tomato Products
- Vegetables (Canned)
We will be having a friendly grade level competition. The grade level that turns in the most food at the end of the Food Drive will earn an autographed copy of Maddie's Fridge for their classroom libraries. If you would like to order an autographed copy of Maddie's Fridge, order forms will be sent home on Monday, September 14th. For more information on Lois Brandt and her book, please visit her website at http://www.loisbrandt.com.
