Mann earns another Washington Achievement Award

Mann Elementary is once again a recipient of the 2014 Washington Achievement Award for Overall Excellence.

This is an extraordinary accomplishment and is a direct reflection of the hard work of our students, the dedication of our teachers, and the support and guidance of our parents.

Who are the outstanding educators and the dedicated volunteers at Horace Mann?

The Awards Committee is now accepting nominations for the Mannie Award, the Golden Acorn Award and Outstanding Educator Award. Click here (http://horacemannptsa.org/Doc/Flyers/2015MannPTSAAwardNominationForm.pdf) for an Awards Nomination Form. These awards will be presented at our Volunteer Tea on Thursday, May 28th at 3pm at Horace Mann. Deadline for submissions is Tuesday, May 12, 2015.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye! The World of Fun International Carnival is coming to Horace Mann Friday, June 5th!

Last year, Horace Mann hosted it's first International Night, which was a rousing success - and we want to make it even more successful by combining our popular carnival with International Night - so the World of Fun International Carnival was born!  If you participated in the International Carnival last year, it would be our pleasure if you participated with a display this year, too.  If you didn't participate last year, why not make this year the year you introduce your culture to the entire Horace Mann community?  Please take a look at the flyer (http://horacemannptsa.org/Doc/Flyers/InternationalNight2015Flyer.pdf) and fill it out so we can start planning appropriately.

In addition to highlighting the varied cultures here at Mann, we'll also have games, activities, and food that you've come to expect at the carnival - the cake walk, bouncy houses, and more will all be there!   For questions or to sign up, please contact desireemichael@gmail.com.  We can't wait to see you there!

SchoolPool Update

Wow! Our first week is over and 86 families signed up for SchoolPool! Help spread the word to continue raise funds for PTA & reduce car trips. If you haven't done so yet, click here (redmondschoolpool.icarpool.com) to get signed up and earn $10 for our school (and a free Redbox coupon for the students!)

The more families who join means more potential matches for your students to walk or bike with safely to school, or for you to find others to share the driving with by forming carpools. Organizing with more matches also mean more effective and reliable trips for you and more fun trips for the students.

If you have any questions, you can email the Redmond SchoolPool staff at  redmondschoolpool@redmond.gov

SBA Testing Dates

3rd-5th grade parents,

Please mark the following dates on your calendar.  It is essential all 3rd-5th grade students attend these days of school for the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA).  Please make doctor appointments on other days or before or after school.  The SBA has an interesting component to it.  One of the testing days involves a whole class performance task, which will usually mean a class discussion.  If students miss these sessions, it will be extremely difficult to re-create these discussions in a make-up session.  Your help in making sure your child is attending school well-rested, healthy and fed on these days is much appreciated.
