Science Fair and Science Fair Assembly Coming Up

Get your kids ready to turn ON their scientific brains! The Pacific Science Center will be presenting a "Super Cool Science Show" on Tuesday, February 10th at 9:30am. This assembly will bring excitement about science and we hope it will inspire students to participate in the upcoming Horace Mann Science Fair taking place on March 5th, 6-8pm.

More information about the Science Fair coming up in the Horace Mann PTSA website. Registration for the Science Fair will open February 11th.

Reach for the Stars

Next week, we will begin our annual kick off event for "Reach for the Stars," on Wednesday, February 11th.  Horace Mann will partner with Usborne Books to complete a 2-week, pledge-based reading challenge.  Students will be challenged to read or be read to for 30 minutes a day.  You can support your child's efforts with reading by sponsoring them for this event.  Each day your child will log their reading time by filling in the squares using the Reach for the Stars Reading Journal.  Reading Journals along with money collected will be due on Wednesday, February 25th.  The best part...100% of student pledges are used to reward students and the Horace Mann staff and library.  Students earn 50% of their pledges in Usborne books, and the remaining 50% of the pledges will go back to the school.  Last year, we used the profits towards buying books to award students who participated with the Summer Reading Postcard Program.  137 students received brand new books to take home and keep.  The remaining profits were used to purchase mentor texts that teachers  use to support reading and writing instruction.  Thank you for your support and for taking the reading challenge.
