Vision and Health Screening Day Volunteers Needed This THURSDAY!

Health screening day happens once a year at Horace Mann. The students are screened for routine vision and hearing issues.  The school nurse reviews results and lets parents know if there are any vision or hearing issues with their child.

We desperately need your help this Thursday, November 20, 2014.  The screening runs from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM.  If you are able to volunteer and help for all or part of the session, please either:

Email Greg Reichlin (gregreichlin@gmail.com) who is this year's coordinator
OR

We can't do this without volunteers!

No prior experience is necessary and the training only takes a few minutes in the morning before students come in.  This has been a fun event in the past, and parents love seeing their kids come through the lines.  Get involved!  Many helpers lighten the workload and helps get the job done quickly!

HELP NEEDED FOR THE HOLIDAYS:

The holiday season is fast approaching and we are asking for your help for our Horace Mann families who may need a little extra support during this time.  As a school community, we provide a Thanksgiving meal and Christmas gift cards to a handful of families in our school family who may be going through tough financial times. If you are willing and able to help, we are collecting donations through November for BOTH Thanksgiving and Christmas.

  • Donate online (http://horacemannptsa.org/Packet/HolidayHelp) via our ptsa website with check or paypal.
  • Cash or Check (checks made out to Horace Mann PTSA w/ "transitions" in memo line)
  • Gift Cards (any local store)
  • *NEW THIS YEAR* Stockings and Stocking Stuffers (toys, candy, personal hygiene items, etc for both children and adults)
All donations can be brought to the school office, c/o Ann Glassey.  Your support is very much appreciated and truly makes a difference. Thank you.

Scholastic Book Fair December 1st - 4th

Support the Horace Mann Library, Shop the Book Fair!

The funds raised from this year's book fair will be used to purchase more picture books, chapter books, and nonfiction titles for students to enjoy and to support the curriculum and Common Core Standards.  Students will preview the book fair with their classes on December 1st and 2nd. The book fair opens for shopping Tuesday, December 2nd at 3pm. Book fair volunteers get to shop the book fair before the crowds on Tuesday, December 2nd from 7:45 - 8:15 am. If you'd like to support the library and shop the book fair without the crowds, sign up to volunteer: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4DA8AA29A1F94-scholastic

If you can't make it to the Book Fair, you can shop our online fair starting November 26th. To shop our online book fair go to:

http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/horacemannredmond. All books ordered online will arrive at the school 7-10 days after the book fair ends.

4th & 5th Grade: Holiday Food Drive Concert

Dear 4th and 5th grade families,

Below is a link for participation in our annual Holiday Food Drive Performance at Redmond Town Center. It is important that you sign up your student for this performance so we can make sure we have enough space on stage. Please take a moment to look through all the information that I've provided. We'd love to have everyone there! There are also some spots for volunteers to sign up as I will be needing help that evening with equipment and supervision. I'm looking forward to another fun and memorable event and I appreciate all your help and support in making this happen!

Thanks so much!

Keep up with the boundary change process

Between now and February, Lake Washington School District is reviewing and making changes to the boundaries that determine which students attend which schools. We do not yet know how our school might be affected. However, there is an easy way to keep up with the activities of the committee that is working on these changes. The LWSD Reboundary Process (http://www.lwsd.org/News/Reboundary/Pages/default.aspx) page on the district website is where all the information on this process is being posted as it goes along. On the right hand side of the page, there is a link that says Sign up to receive boundary process email updates. Click on that link (or this link here: http://bit.ly/1swWLxO) and follow the prompts. You will receive an email to alert you whenever new information is posted.
