Vision and Health Screening Day

Health screening day happens once a year at Horace Mann. The students are screened for routine vision and hearing issues. The school nurse reviews results and lets parents know if there are any vision or hearing issues with their child.

We need volunteers to help on this day, November 20, 2014. The screening runs from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM. If you are able to volunteer and help for all or part of the morning, please sign up with this Signup Genius: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0c4ba8ae28a2f94-vision

No prior experience is necessary and the training only takes a few minutes in the morning before students come in. This has been a fun event in the past, and parents love seeing their kids come through the lines. Get involved! Many helpers lighten the workload and helps get the job done quickly!

It's getting colder outside, and on Friday, November 7, our gym will be Frozen. Save the date and join us as Anna and Elsa make their Horace Mann Movie Night debut. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and Frozen begins at 7 p.m. We will have pizza, popcorn, candy and more for sale.

Tickets will be on sale soon. Right now, we need your help to make movie night a success. We need volunteers the night of, and for jobs that need to be done in advance. Click here to sign up and help.

Yearbook Cover Contest!

Show your school spirit! All students are invited to create, draw & submit an original piece of art for the cover of our 2014-15 yearbook. The winner will be featured on this year's yearbook cover. One runner-up for each grade will appear on the back of the yearbook. Details will be sent home with students. Deadline: October 29th

Entertainment Books - Help 5th grade and our safety patrol

Our Safety Patrol members and 5th grade students recently sold Entertainment Books to raise funds for 5th grade Enrichment and Safety Patrol equipment and field trip. We still have 45 books to sell to meet our goals and help pay for our 5th grade programs and Safety Patrol needs. Please consider purchasing an Entertainment book from us! They make wonderful gifts. There are coupons for EVERYONE in these books....and using them one or two times pays for the book! Please contact Ann Glassey in the office to purchase a book. Thanks so much for your support!

Harvest Party Guidelines

Harvest Parties should be held on Fri., Oct 31st. Students bring costumes to school and put them on OVER their school clothes for the party. Please remember that:

Costumes must be school appropriate (no "scary" costumes)
No make-up, masks or hair paint
No weapons
All costumes must be worn over school clothes
School dress code does apply to costumes

Sodexo Nutrition Services currently has paid positions available to help serve your students. Paid positions are 2-4 hours in length. Starting pay is $9.75 an hour.

October Bike & Walk to School Month Coming to a Close!

We've had a great month of our students walking, biking, carpooling & taking the bus to school! So far, you've helped Horace Mann raise $860 for our PTSA. As the month wraps up, you can help Horace Mann raise additional funds for the PTSA by participating in the Redmond SchoolPool program.

There are two ways for families to participate:

Online Calendar at RedmondSchoolPool.com
Families who have created an account at RedmondSchoolPool.com and add a trip to the online calendar can earn $20 for Horace Mann's PTA, be entered to win gas gift cards, and earn rewards for their student. For questions about how to use the online system or to create an account, email redmondschoolpool@redmond.gov.
Paper Calendar (distributed in class)
For each paper calendar that is filled out and returned the Horace Mann PTA will earn $10. Mark the days on the calendar your student walked, biked, carpooled, or took the bus in October. Then mail back the completed form to the Redmond SchoolPool or turn it in at the front office by November 15. Be sure and include your contact information so the Redmond SchoolPool can send your student a reward!
