Pass The Hat Needs You!

Did you know that the Pass the Hat fundraiser is going to be the only PTSA fundraiser this year?  We are currently ahead of projections but we need YOUR donations to reach our goal by October 31st.  We want to be fully funded so we can focus our events on fun for our students and their families - movie night, art night, and the Colt Carnival!  Please click here to make a donation - it only takes a moment and will help your school!!  (Feel free to forward this to your friends and family and don't forget your matching donations!!)

PTSA Membership Drive

It's time to renew your annual membership in PTSA and WIN!!

With your membership you will receive the highly popular student directory!

Health Room - help needed

The Mann Healthroom is looking for volunteers to help support our front office staff so they can take their lunch break every day.  Volunteering in the healthroom is a fun and fulfilling experience and doesn't require you to have any medical background or knowledge. As volunteers, we mainly give band-aids and ice-packs, take temperatures, call a child's parent if necessary and mostly just give lots of friendly and supportive TLC to the kids.  If you are interested or even just curious about this volunteer opportunity, please contact Holley Kaskel at drholley@centerforpositivewellness.com or 425-213-9153.

PTSA Chairs/Coordinators needed

The PTSA is looking to fill a few roles for the current school year.  We are able to provide our children with many great opportunities at Horace Mann and need a few more people to help support the following programs.  Please contact PTSA Co-Presidents Lia White or Jean Chenevert to help or inquire at president@horacemannptsa.org.

*NEW* After School Enrichment Co-Chair:

Don't you just love those after school programs?!!  Every year we have a wide variety of opportunities for kids conveniently located at the school.  The PTSA is looking for a Co-VP Enrichment to help with logistics of scheduling, registration, and recruitment for those amazing and fun programs.  Got some great ideas for after school activities for the kids?  Please contact president@horacemannptsa.org to help or inquire.

*NEW* Mann Website Webmaster:

The Horace Mann LWSD website needs a new webmaster.  Light time commitment, training is provided.  The position is open to all volunteers....parents and staff alike!  The only requirement is a desire to learn a little about being a webmaster and to help keep our school information current.

Health & Safety Chair:

This chairperson is responsible for being the point person for the school staff for all health and safety related activities and programs (including Health Room, Health Screening, Safe Arrival, Emergency Preparedness and AM Parking Lot Patrol). They help to support the coordinators in each area and identify or recruit key coordinators to manage each area when vacancies are identified.  Currently we have a great team of volunteers for each of these areas.

Yearbook Committee Co-Chair:

We are looking for one more parent volunteer to be a Yearbook Committee Co-Chair for the school year. The Yearbook Committee is responsible for planning,  creating, advertising and selling the school-wide yearbook that shows off all of our wonderful students, their classrooms and all of the student activities and events that happen during the school year. The yearbook is a treasured keepsake that students look forward to receiving at the end of the school year. Co-Chairs will head up the yearbook committee volunteers and provide direction and guidance to the parent volunteers who help take pictures.

Assemblies Volunteer:

The PTSA is looking for a parent volunteer to help research possible assemblies for the school. This volunteer will present ideas to the PTSA Board and Mrs. Spaulding, and once approved take care of contract details and help facilitate on the day of the assembly.

School Supplies Coordinator:

This very helpful program prevents all those end of summer shopping trips or school supply scavenger hunts!  Help renew the contract with the vendor, coordinate with office staff to obtain the school supply list, distribute a flier and market to the students and parents, and coordinate the delivery of the supplies.

LWSD PTSA Special Needs Group

The Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) Special Needs Group (SNG) is made up of parents in the Lake Washington School District whose children receive special services and/or classroom support. Many special education staff are also part of the group. The group meets every month of the school year except December and June. These informative meetings provide opportunities to:

  • Hear presentations relevant to the needs of special needs families and children in LWSD
  • Learn about resources in the community
  • Network with other parents before or after the meeting
  • Keep updated on district and PTSA issues that affect our children

Meetings are held every fourth Tuesday of the month in the LWSD Resource Center from 7-8:30 p.m.

School Pool

Dear families,

As our school expands and we welcome new students this year, it's important that each of us make an effort to reduce the congestion around the school caused by the number of vehicles that are dropping off and picking up kids each day.  Horace Mann has partnered with City of Redmond in an exciting new program.

With Redmond SchoolPool, Horace Mann families register on a secure website and are then matched with other students to help form carpools, create 'walking school buses,' or find 'bike buddies' to travel to school with. We also encourage those students who have school bus service, to ride the bus to and from school. This program encourages healthy travel habits, and helps families save time, money, and reduce their impact on the environment.

Participating families can earn awesome rewards:

  • For Our School: Earn $20 when you sign up & add a trip to the SchoolPool Calendar
  • For Your Family: Be entered to win prize drawings for gas gift cards
  • For Our Students: When we meet our participation goal, students will win a great assembly at school!

To join the Horace Mann SchoolPool:

  1. Create an account at RedmondSchoolPool.com (for detailed instructions click here)
  2. Join the secure network by searching "Horace Mann" under the Profile, My Networks tab
  3. Enter the password "colt" to join the Horace Mann Network.
  4. Find other families to travel with by creating a trip under the SchoolPool tab.

Please help us combat this problem and give our students a healthy, fun, and safe way to get to school, while earning rewards for our school and your family!  If you have questions on the Redmond SchoolPool Program, or need help getting your account set up, email RedmondSchoolPool@redmond.gov

Safety Patrol & 5th Grade Fundraising

The fifth grade classes and Safety Patrol are teaming up to raise money to support our fifth grade Science Afloat field trip, our Challenges NW trip and our Safety Patrol's annual Wild Waves trip.  Please consider helping us meet our goal of $5,000 by purchasing the exciting new Entertainment 2015 edition. It is full of hundreds of 50% off and 2 for 1 offers for restaurants, theaters, sports, travel, and much much more in your area.

We are selling the book at a special price of $25 and you can easily save more than that the first few times you use it. So helping us could really cost you nothing!
