Dear Parents,

To help promote summer literacy, we are excited to announce the annual Horace Mann Summer Reading  Postcard Program.  Each student will receive 2 postcards on the last day of school to complete during the summer for each book they read.  Postcards will also available on the Horace Mann website and in the Horace Mann Little Library.  For students in 5th grade, we encourage you to print postcards from the Horace Mann website to use as a resource this summer.  As a staff, we believe this program is a wonderful way to promote active reading at home.

While your child reads, you will become involved participants as you listen and offer feedback.  On the bottom of each postcard, please comment on how your child has improved from one reading to the next.  After completing the postcards, you can mail them to Horace Mann Elementary or bring them back during the first week of school.  Postcards will be on display in the building during the month of September and students who participate will be recognized as a group during the Welcome Back Assembly and celebrate with a special Read-In, where they will select a free book and eat popcorn in the library.  We are encouraging all the Horace Mann students to participate and if we have greater than 50%, we will even celebrate with a special Spirit Team Day where students can come to school dressed as their favorite book character.

Thank you in advance for supporting literacy learning all year long.
