Your student should have brought home a green "Reserve a Place" form on Friday. This form is helps us with our enrollment projections at Mann. We need to know if your student(s) is returning to Mann in the fall or if there are other plans. Please complete this brief form and return it to school before March 31st. Your help in this matter will greatly help our ability to plan for the upcoming school year.

Staff Appreciation Week

Staff Appreciation Week begins on Monday, March 24th and it is going to be OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! Your child should have brought home an "I Think You Are Out of This World Because..." rocket picture on Friday. Please have them color the rocket, write a special note to their teacher, and present it to their teacher on Monday. *Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week is officially recognized the week of May 5th - 9th; however, Horace Mann celebrates our teachers a bit earlier because of state testing. The events listed on the website are planned by the Hospitality Committee. It is up to the SAW classroom volunteers and room parents to coordinate more personalized surprises for their teacher during the week.

Hear ye, Hear ye, a Royal Knighting Ceremony was held on Thursday, March 13th. These third grade students worked hard and earned their place in the Royal Order of the Knights of the Multiplication Table.

Thank you to all the families who have signed up to help with this exciting event. We still need more families to bring food for the Potluck. It does not have to be a dish associated with a specific culture; if you have a favorite family dish, please consider bringing it to the event. We have created a Sign Up Genius to make the process easy for everyone. If you are able to bring an appetizer, main dish or dessert, please sign up using the link below (if you have already turned in a form indicating that you will bring food, you do not need to sign up again).

It is also not too late to organize and/or run a station that represents your family's culture or participate in the cultural fashion parade. Just return the blue form to the school as soon as possible. If you need another form, you may pick one up in the office.

Yearbook!

The deadline to order a yearbook and to submit photos to be used in the yearbook is MARCH 31st!

Yearbooks are $16 and your child will receive it the last week of school. Order online at:

Our project number is 419421 and you can leave the password blank. You will need to enter your name and email address to upload photos so we know who they came from. When uploading photos you don't need to list every child in the photo but PLEASE label the photo with the classroom teacher name.

You can also put your photos on a zipdrive or cd labeled "Yearbook" and leave it in the office PTSA box.

Spring Noetic Learning Math Contest

The Spring NLMC contest is coming up in April and available for grades 2 to 5. The goal of the competition is to encourage young students' interest in math, to develop their problem solving skills, and to inspire them to excel in math. During the contest, students are given 45 minutes to solve 20 problems. Many problems are designed to challenge students and to enrich their problem solving experiences.

What: Spring Noetic Learning Math Contest

When: April 16 (Wednesday) at 6 p.m.

Where: Horace Mann Elementary

Contest is provided by NLMC and sponsored and hosted by Horace Mann Elementary PTSA. Spaces are limited, so register early!

Awards: Students that make National Honor Roll will receive a medal given out at the end of year Awards Assembly.

Art Night 2014

Hello Art Docents,

We hope you've all been enjoying these last few months helping Horace Mann students bloom where they're planted. It's time to start thinking about our annual Art Night Festival! Come celebrate Art in Bloom! It's all over the earth!

The official date is Friday May 30, 2014.

Bring your families and invite your friends to an evening of art, entertainment, food and adventure. Save the date and start thinking about tailoring a few art lessons focusing on a floral or natural theme related to the following assignments. Class art raffle items are not required to be in the Art in Bloom theme and now is a good time to begin thinking about your raffle project.... Remember, you have a budget of 75$ for this and make sure if you've spent any money from it, to submit your expenses. The deadline for the raffle project is May 9th.

We are in need of volunteers for the Art Night. Look out for a Singup Genius notification after the spring break!

Floral and natural art is such an all-encompassing thing. Grade level assignments are here for your inspiration, please feel free to cross lines when it comes to art projects with the kids. We want students to know about all art and artists! Here is a reminder of this years' themed assignments:
K - Dale Chihuly (arts & crafts)
1 - Claude Monet (impressionism)
2 - Georgia O'Keeffe (American modernism)
3 - Pacific Island Art (Hawaiian, Maori, tribal)
4 - Vincent Van Gogh (post impressionism)
