Dear Parents,

As educators, it is our duty to ensure a quality education for every one of our students. However, our paramount duty is to ensure the safety of your children when they are with us. We also want to support you in helping your child to be as safe as possible at all times. In fact, just this past December, Redmond Police Officer Mike Dowd met with students in all grades to address issues of safety which affect children of all ages including road safety, what to do if they ever come across a firearm, and stranger danger.

You can help by teaching your child to be aware of his or her surroundings at all times. Pay attention to cars, to the people around you, and how they behave. Make sure your children know that if they ever see something that doesn't seem right, to tell a trusted adult immediately.

You can also register for any alerts pertaining to your area at the following website. This site will also allow you to search by your address so you can be aware of any offenders that may be living in your area.

Thank you for trusting us with your children every day. They are our most treasured resources, and we are your partners in their safety and well-being. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Raiders of the Lost Books Coin Drive March 3 - March 13

Spearheaded by a spunky group of 5th graders, the Service Club is sponsoring a coin drive to replace list of damaged and lost books from the Horace Mann library entitled The Raiders of the Lost Books Coin Drive.

Starting Monday, March 3, please send in your spare change to support this great cause.  Donations will be collected in each classroom over the next two weeks.  The intermediate class and primary class with the most donations will receive a prize.  Our goal is to raise $500 to replace some of the missing and damaged books.

If you would prefer to donate a NEW or GENTLY USED replacement book, please click here (Lost Book List and Sign-Up) and Sign Up.

A flyer came home with your student on Friday, but if you would like more information please contact Jodie Miller (5mill@frontier.com), Colleen Wolfe (jcabtwolfe@comcast.net), or Marlene Katz (enginemom@gmail.com).

Your Mann Art Docent Program wants to raise awareness of art events, especially when they're FREE!

Thursday March 6 is the SAM community night out

What makes Thursday March 6th special is The Seattle Art Museum is celebrating its new Joan Miro exhibit. From 6-9 pm the museum will celebrate with art workshops, live art demonstrations, dance and music.

Upportunity Team News

March 7th is not only popcorn day. It's also our winter Walk to School Day. Dress for the weather and walk, ride your bike or take the bus.  When you get to school look for one of our members who will give you a ticket to turn in to your classroom envelope. The class with the most tickets will earn a popcorn pass!

March 15th is another great chance to help make our school grounds a better wildlife habitat. Thanks to the PTA we have the funds to plant more native shrubs around the pond to fight the blackberries and provide more food and shelter for wildlife. Please join us!  Families are welcome to accompany any Horace Mann student.  Upportunity Team members can come on their own with a signed permission slip.

Staff Appreciation Week

Staff Appreciation Week begins March 24th! It is the Hospitality Committee's biggest (and most fun) even of the year! Would you like to join our mission? Please visit our webpage for more information and to sign-up for one of our daily activities. With your help, Staff Appreciation Week will be OUT OF THIS WORLD!

http://horacemannptsa.org/Page/Hospitality/SAW

*Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week is officially recognized the week of May 5th - 9th; however, Horace Mann celebrates our teachers a bit earlier because of state testing. The events listed on the website are planned by the Hospitality Committee. It is up to the SAW classroom volunteers and room parents to coordinate more personalized surprises for their teacher during the week.
