Our school, along with all other schools in the district, will practice our full lockdown procedure on February 27. A full lockdown would be initiated when there is an intruder or other threat of violence on our school campus.

While it's difficult to think about these possibilities, it's important that we are prepared as a school community. As a parent, you also need to be prepared by being familiar with a few aspects of school lockdowns. Here are two things you need to know in the event of a real lockdown at your student's school:

You will receive an automated phone call notifying you that it is occurring. Calls will go to all telephone numbers on file for your student. You will be told in that call or a subsequent call where parents should report to receive more information and for student/family reunification.
Do not call or go to the school, even though it is likely to be your first instinct. It's important to keep the phone lines open for communication between the school and first responders. Law enforcement will not let anyone near the site until the situation is resolved: that's why you will be directed to another location to wait for your student.

If you happen to come to the school on Feb. 27th at the time of the lockdown drill, please be prepared to wait outside the school until the drill is over. We will be following our lockdown protocol and that includes not letting anyone into the school. Thank you in advance for your patience.

The Food Allergy/Sensitivity Parent Group is a group of parents of kids with food allergies or sensitivities who are focused on ensuring that kids at Horace Mann are not excluded from activities during school time because of their food requirements.

Hear ye, Hear ye! Announcing the Knights of the Multiplication Table!

This exciting program involves all 3rd grade students at Horace Mann. Upon completing their multiplication facts, our students will have the opportunity to kneel before our royal Mrs. Spaulding to be knighted and honored with their classmates. Knighting Ceremonies are held once a month starting in February and continue through May. The first knighting ceremony will be held on Thursday, February 20th. Happy Multiplying!

NEW! Any 4th grade students who were not knighted in December will have one last chance to become a Senior Knight in February. Practice hard!

Horace Mann Skate King Day

Come with your friends and family for a fun afternoon of roller skating. Horace Mann Skate King Day is on Wednesday, February 26^th from 2pm to 4pm. Cost is $4 per skater. All students attending must be supervised by an adult during the event.

Noetic Learning Math Competition

Last November Horace Mann PTSA hosted the Fall 2013 Noetic Learning Math Competition.

A total of 11 children participated.

A big congratulations to 9 students to who made Honorable Mention and 2 students who won National Honor Roll.

Pizza Party Winners

The class winners for the "Most Attendance at PTSA Meetings" contest are:

Mrs. Trotters class for Primary
Mrs. Pascoe's class for Intermediate

The PTSA will run the contest again for the 2^nd half of the year and announce class winners in June so don't forget to attend PTSA meetings.

They are held each month, 3^rd Thursday at 7pm in the Horace Mann Library. All are welcome, this means "students" too!
