You are invited to an open house to comment on a temporary boundary adjustment for unoccupied homes in the Rockwell and Einstein neighborhoods for the school years 2014-15 and 2015-16. Students in designated areas would attend Mann Elementary School instead. (Note: This change will not impact any current Einstein or Rockwell students.) This adjustment is needed because Einstein and Rockwell are reaching the maximum number of students they can serve and enrollment continues to grow.
The temporary boundary committee has reviewed the enrollment projections and reviewed alternatives. The open house will take place at Redmond Middle School on Wednesday, January 22, between 6:30 and 8:00 p.m.
At the open house, parents will be able to view presentation boards with information on options and provide feedback. Written feedback forms will be available. There will not be a formal presentation: come and view the information any time during the open house that is convenient for you. Committee members will be available to answer questions and take your feedback.
The committee is working on a tight timeline: it will make a recommendation to the district's board of directors at its Monday, January 27, board meeting. The committee's recommendation will be published on the district's website on Friday, January 24.

Vision and Hearing Screening Thank You
THANK YOU to all for volunteering your time and showing up to help on Vision and Hearing Screening Day at Horace Mann!!
Your help is so appreciated!
It certainly does take many hands to lighten the load, and organizing a whole school event like this went smoothly thanks to all who volunteered!
Thank you again for your help, time, concern, effort, tutelage, wise counsel, and general good attitude to keep things running smoothly on this busy day! It was fun.

Reach for the Stars - January 22nd - February 5th
On January 22nd, our school will begin Reach for the Stars, a pledge based reading incentive program. Reach for the Stars participants should read or be read to at home for 30 minutes each day between January 22nd and February 5th. Students will request pledges to support their reading during the two week period. 100% of the pledge money collected will come back to the students and our school to purchase more books and support literacy at Horace Mann. Students will receive 50% of their total pledges in free books from Usborne and Kane/Miller. Horace Mann will receive the other 50% to purchase books that will support the Common Core and our summer literacy program. Watch for your child's Reach for the Stars Reading Journal and Pledge sheet on January 22nd!

Please plan to join us in Olympia on Tuesday, February 4 for Focus Day 2014! You won't want to miss our premier, statewide advocacy event. Focus Day is a great way to connect with legislators as we put kids front and center this legislative session.
