Dear Mann Community:

Thanks to the parents who came to the Redmond Learning Community Capacity Meeting this past Monday night.  If you were not able to make to the meeting, Dr. Pierce took some time giving us background on how we have become overcrowded in the RLC and potential options to temporarily relieve this issue.  Attached is a Feedback Form for your review and input.  As you read through some of the options, please feel free to jot down your ideas and submit it to the main office, here at Mann or e-mail it to me at mspaulding@lwsd.org.

Click here for Mann Parent Feedback Form.

On another note, I want to express my thankfulness for this wonderful community.  I hope you all have a restful long weekend full of thanksgiving!

All the best,

Megan Spaulding

Principal

Scholastic Book Fair December 3rd - 5th

Support the Horace Mann Library, Shop the Book Fair!

The funds raised from this year's book fair will be used to purchase more picture books, chapter books, and nonfiction titles for students to enjoy and to support the curriculum and Common Core Standards.  Students will preview the book fair with their classes on December 2nd and 3rd. The book fair opens for shopping Tuesday, December 3rd at 3pm. Book fair volunteers get to shop the book fair before the crowds on Tuesday, December 3rd from 7:45 - 8:15 am. If you'd like to support the library and shop the book fair without the crowds, sign up to volunteer: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/20F0E49AAAC2AAA8-mann

If you can't make it to the Book Fair, you can shop our online fair November 24th - December 8th. To shop our online book fair go to: http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/horacemannredmond. All books ordered online will arrive at the school 7-10 days after the book fair ends.

Norman Rockwell Chess State-Qualifier

The Norman Rockwell Chess State-Qualifier tournament will take place on December 7.  The tournament is open to all students from Kindergarten to 6th grade.  You do not need to be affiliated with a chess club to join and we welcome students from all schools in the area.

On-line registration and more information can be found on the Chess4Life website.  Tournament fee is $20 for advanced registration.  Doors open at 8:15am with play beginning promptly at 9am.  An award ceremony will be held directly following the last round of play.

The Knights of the Multiplication Table

This exciting program involves all 3rd and 4th grade students at Horace Mann.  Upon completing their multiplication facts, our students will have the opportunity to kneel before our royal Mrs. Spaulding to be knighted and honored with their classmates.

Many of the 4th grade students were knighted last year. They will have ONE opportunity this year to become senior knights. The Horace Mann Senior Knighting Ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 19th at 2:00 PM. Parents of those being knighted are invited to attend.

Do lots of multiplication review at home so that you can one day soon join The Knights of the Multiplication Table!

VOLUNTEERS??  PLEASE!

Parking Lot Patrol - do you like drop off to go smooth in the morning?  Then we need more than one faithful helper.

Math Club - without volunteers, we cannot keep this going.

Nominating Committee - the PTSA cannot provide all its great programs without members.  We'll need to scale back without volunteers.
