Dear Mann Community:

I am excited to be the Administrative Intern at Horace Mann Elementary this year. Previously I have taught both elementary and middle school and, for the past seven years, I have worked at the district office in the Curriculum and Assessment department. This year I am continuing to work part time in Curriculum and Assessment so I am splitting my time between the district office and Horace Mann. I am looking forward to a great year and getting to know everyone in the Horace Mann community.

There are some important announcements and events that I would like to share with you.

Pass the Hat - Extended through Thursday!!

Current Donation Total $7,900 (as of Oct 4) toward our goal of $20,000

Can we double the 35% participation rate we have now?

Classrooms in the lead: Gift (grades K-2) and Dayton (grades 3-5).

Pass the Hat is our most efficient form of fundraising.  More of each dollar donated goes directly to the PTSA with Pass the Hat than any other fundraiser.  In addition, your donation to Pass the Hat is fully tax deductible!  By participating, you help fund the many programs that are organized and paid for by the Horace Mann PTSA!  We can only provide these services if we all step up and give.  The donation form can be found here.

Progress Prizes: The PTSA will grant the following prizes to the student body at $5,000 increments on our way to $20,000

$5k     Pajama Day (ACHIEVED!)

$10k  New books for the library (only $2100 to go!)

$15k  Music and/or Movies at lunch for a week

$20k  Hula Hoops for playground

Classroom Prizes: Prizes will be granted to the classes with the highest participation rate!

The winning class (one in grades K-2 and one in grades 3-5) will win:

-          Up to $150 for the class to spend on something for their classroom (beanbag, rug, games, etc)

-          $50 in additional PTSA classroom grant money for the teacher!

Where does your contribution go???

PTSA funds will pay for many great academic programs this year!  A few examples include:

$5000 - Art Program: Elementary art education in LWSD is almost entirely dependent on PTSA funds!

$2800 - Accelerated Reader (AR) Program

$2200 - IXL Online Math

$6000 - Teacher Classroom Grants

$2500 - Fieldtrip Support: the PTSA pays for buses so parents don't have to drive!

$1800 - Assemblies to enrich and educate through entertainment

Don't forget about Corporate Matching!  Giving Campaigns have started!

Don't throw money away!  Many companies will match donations of $25 or greater.  Last year, the PTSA earned nearly $8,000 through these generous matching programs, and we are counting on them again to help fund the remainder of this year's Operating Budget!  Your matches make a big difference!

Microsoft employees can sign in here to have their donations matched (you must be on the corporate network).
