Dear Mann Community:

Megan Spaulding closer

Another successful year has quickly come and gone.  This is always a bittersweet time of year for me.  While I enjoy summer, I miss school and all of the friendly faces and activity it brings.  To celebrate all of our achievements this year, we will be having an Awards Assembly on Monday, June 17th, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.  There will be a few rows of chairs set up in the back for any parent who would like to come join us in this important celebration.  Student, staff and parents' achievements will be recognized at this time.

Another reason the end of school is bittersweet for me is because we always have to say goodbye to someone.  This year we are promoting an excellent class of 5th graders to the middle school.  They have been outstanding leaders in our school this year and I know they will have a positive impact on their new schools.  We also have two staff members retiring this year.  Louise Carson and Robin Cassidy, both long term Mann staff members, will be retiring from education at the end of this school year.  Mrs. Carson was hired at Mann in 1985 and Mrs. Cassidy in 1986.  Both contributed to education before even being hired at Mann.  Their mark on Mann has been positive and deep.  We will miss them terribly, but they should know that we will continue to honor their service in our work towards excellence in the coming years.

Please remember that we have summer reading programs going on this summer.  I hope many of our students will participate and grow in their love for reading.  And finally, I would like to remind you to mark your calendars with some important dates for next school year.

8/28       Incoming Kindergarten Orientation 4 pm

8/29       Class lists posted and Meet and Greet 11am-12pm

9/3         First day of school

9/12       Curriculum Night for grades 1st-5th

Enjoy your summer!  I hope it is full of many wonderful family memories.

All the best,

Megan Spaulding

Principal

Expense Reimbursement Reminders

Please remit all your expense reimbursements, if you want to get reimbursed, so we can close the books for this school year.

If you've already submitted a form and receipts, please do NOT remit a second time, as it's confusing and may be paid twice for the same thing.  Instead contact the Treasurers or Co-Presidents to know where it is in the process.

No more checks will be sent via KidMail after Wednesday so, please provide a self-addressed envelope (stamped too, is nice) and your check will be mailed to you.

Scanned copies of expense report forms and receipts are acceptable and can be sent via email to the Treasurers:  Jean Chenevert and Lia White.

Art Night Cuprocking Installation

"The 5th Grade Art Docents would like to acknowledge all the people for supporting the Cuprocking Installation.  A big thank you to the teachers: Mr. Maver, Mr. Wobker and Ms. Hartford for making time in the class schedule to do it.  Congratulations to the students for working so well together as teams to get it done.  We are obliged to all the 5th Grade families who donated money to the cause.  A special thank you to Manager Mike Curtis of Party City Woodinville for selling the cups to us at cost.  And we couldn't have done it without the support of the Horace Mann PTSA.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  Enjoy the summer!"

Hopelink Coin Drive

The Service Club would like to thank the Horace Mann community for their generosity.  Our school raised $305.22 which has been donated to Hopelink's End Summer Hunger Campaign.  This program supports children in our community who depend on the reduced and free lunch programs during the school year. Thank you again!

Save Your Box Tops All Summer Long!

Box Tops logo

Service Club would like to remind you about the Box Tops for Education program.  Your students brought home a collection bag last week to help you remember to save those box tops over the summer.  You can keep them in the bag and send them back in next September.  Service Club will trim them and count them and send them in for cash to support the programs at our school.  Soup labels are also collected and mailed in for points.  We use the points to purchase playground and PE Equipment for the school.  Please contact Jodie Miller if you have any questions about Box Tops or Service Club at 5mill@frontier.com.

Fall Colt Carnival

Hello Parents, it has been a couple of years since we have had a carnival due to lack of parent involvement.  We would like to put on a carnival in October but we need YOU!  Please email me if you are willing to be on a committee to put a carnival together for the fall.  I am hoping if we meet twice over the summer that we can divide up the work and put together a fun evening for everyone.  You can contact me at anngugat@yahoo.com.
