Dear Parents,
Now that the weather is warming up there are a few things that you might want to consider. Your child is outside several times per day. We want to be proactive in preventing sunburns and accidents. Please consider applying sunscreen to your child prior to coming to school, as we are not able to apply sunscreen at school without a doctor's note. Also, be sure your child is dressed appropriately. Clothing with spaghetti straps and flip flops are not permitted due to dress code policy and for safety reasons.
We also encourage you to send a water bottle to school with your child that they can drink throughout the day. Waiting until you feel thirsty means your body is already "desperate for water". Small children are much more likely to become dehydrated than older children or adults, because they can lose relatively more fluid quickly.

Knight of the Multiplication Table
Hear Ye, Hear Ye, on Thursday, May 16th , we held our fourth Knighting Ceremony for the Third Grade. These students worked hard to earn their place in the Royal order of the Knights of the Multiplication Table!

HopeLink End Summer Hunger Coin Drive May 20 - May 31

Proposed PTSA Budget for 2013-2014
A proposed budget for the 2013/14 Horace Mann PTSA has been posted to the Treasurers page on the Mann website. The proposed budget will be discussed and voted on at the May 30 PTSA General membership meeting at 7pm in the Mann Library. All PTSA members are invited to attend.

2013 Awards Committee
The 2013 Awards Committee is now accepting nominations for the Golden Acorn, Golden Apple and Mannie Awards. These awards are presented to outstanding educators and volunteers who have gone above and beyond for the benefit of the students at Horace Mann. Please look for the nominations to come home this week or click here to print out a form. All forms need to be submitted to the office in an envelope marked, "Awards" by May 31st. The awards will be presented at the awards ceremony on June 17th.

Art Night Needs Your Help!
This year's Art Night will be held on Friday June 7 from 6:00-8:30pm. In order to make this special night a success, we need your help. We need several more pop-up canopies to set up outside. If you own a canopy and are willing to loan it for art night, please contact Annie Savage at whymom@gmail.com. Also, if you have yarn lying around your house collecting dust, we'd love to have it! There is a box in the Art Room that you can leave your donations. Thank you!

Horace Mann Math Challenge
Sponsored and funded by our HMPTSA
Students from grade 1 to grade 5 are invited to participate. Winners are drawn randomly from answer submissions and announced on Monday.
