Dear Mann Community,
I have TWO very important topics to share with you this week.
The first is an honor given to Mann due to the excellent student results achieved on the MSP last spring. Once again Mann has been selected and a recipient of the Washington Achievement Award in the areas of Overall Excellence and Science. Washington Achievement Award winners are selected using the Washington Accountability Index and criteria in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Flexibility Waiver. You can learn more about this award by visiting OSPI's web site to learn more about the Washington Achievement Awards, including details on the Washington Achievement Index and the criteria for selection. This is the fifth year in a row that Mann has earned a recognition for student achievement as measured by the MSP. This is a huge accomplishment for our students, staff and parents!
Speaking of the MSP, we recently received approval for our MSP schedule this spring. Below is a table that outlines the dates and tests that will be administered this May. If your student will be taking the MSP, please make every effort to get them to school that day well-fed and well-rested. It is much appreciated if doctor appointments and other planned absences can be avoided during this time.

District Parent and Community Survey
Tell us what you think
Schools, district use data for improvement
Every year, the district asks parents and community members to take a few minutes and give us feedback about how our schools are doing. District-wide information is reported to the school board. Results are also broken out by school and provided to principals for use in their continuous improvement process. Parents and community members alike are invited to take part.
Survey questions are based on the Nine Characteristics of High-Performing Schools. This framework for school improvement was developed by the Office for the Superintendent of Public Schools based on a review of the research on what makes a high-performing school. Your answers will help us understand how we need to improve our schools and our district to be as high performing as possible.
This year, the survey will be open from April 15 through May 13. Please take a few minutes of your time to help the district and schools improve by clicking this link:

Bingo Night is Coming!!- We Need Your Help!
May 2nd is only eleven days away! We still need help with the following:
Silent Auction Donations
In order to reach our goal, we need to do more than just sell bingo cards. We will be holding a silent auction as well, but we need donations! Here are a few more ideas:
- Maybe you have season tickets to sporting or arts events and can't use all of them?
- Do you like to cook ethnic cuisine? Offer lessons on how to cook a few of your favorite dishes!
- Can you shop 'til you drop? Offer to be a personal shopper for a few hours to help someone find a new outfit.
Email Juli Rasmussen (juli@julirasmussen.com) with questions or donations, or feel free to log them on our auction site. (http://sdrv.ms/14A8PVj)
Book and Stuffed Animal Donations - Boxes Located by the Library
Many of you probably have books that have only been read a few times, or stuffed animals that are sitting on some lonely shelf looking brand new. If so, we would love to use them as bingo prizes! Items can be placed in the donation boxes by the library. Please make sure that they are in like new condition (and you could help by running stuffed animals through the dryer for 20 minutes). Anything with tears or stains will be discarded. Items will be collected through Monday, May 29th.
Bake Sale Donations
We hope to provide a table full of beautiful desserts for you to purchase and enjoy during the evening. If you are interested in donating a baked good, please provide your email address here. (link for "here" is http://sdrv.ms/Yu8qwz) Please contact Naomi Call (Naomi_Call@hotmail.com) with any questions.
Can't Attend?
If you are unable to attend, please consider making a cash donation to help us meet our goal. Many companies will match donations! Checks should be made to Horace Mann PTSA and marked "Spring Fundraising". |
