Several weeks ago I wrote to you asking for your help in making sure your children got to school on a regular basis. While our overall attendance at Mann is actually quite good, the month of December was very poor. This was mainly due to families extending vacations beyond the prescribed break. While I understand the importance of family time together, these extended trips are hurting our students' academic progress.

PTSA Enrichment Progam News

PLEASE NOTE:

Math K-2 is now full and registration is closed.
Colt Singers start next week on Wednesday, Jan 16th so please enroll now if you are interested.
Keyboard is also full but registration is still open as we will create a second class if there are enough enrollments.
We still need a parent volunteer for the following classes: Spanish, Drama K-2 & Drama 3-4

District Parent Education Offerings

Coming very soon is a series of parent education programs cosponsored by the district and the LWPTSA Council. Charles Leitch, who you remember from his August presentation to DLT, will be presenting to parents on cyber-safety and social media risks. There will be one program at each of the four comprehensive high schools, from 7 to 9 p.m.:

Lake Washington School Board Meeting

Horace Mann Elementary will be the host school at January's Lake Washington School Board meeting on January 14th at 7pm, with a presentation given by our Principal, Megan Spaulding. The meeting is open to the public so feel free to attend and support our school. It is held at the district offices at Redmond Town Center in the Board Room.

Meet the Specialist Teachers at Horace Mann

Specialists

They will be presenting at the next Horace Mann PTSA meeting on January 17th at 7pm. This is your chance to hear about what your kids do at Music, Library or P.E. Maybe even the secrets to how your kids learn all those songs they sing so often! And ask questions or chat informally with the specialists, since you don't usually meet them at Conferences.

Horace Mann Roller Skate Day - Thursday January 31st

Come with your friends and family for a fun afternoon of roller skating. The $4 cost includes roller skate rental. Rental of in-line blades is available for additional cost. Or, you may bring your own roller blades/skates - Skate King will inspect them at the door to be sure they are appropriate for their facility.

We will accept cash or checks made out to Horace Mann PTSA at the door.

All students attending must be supervised by an adult during the event.

When: Thursday, January 31st 1pm - 3pm

Cost: $4 per skater

Sealant Day 2013

The Lake Washington dental assisting program is hosting their 19th annual Sealant Day program being held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Lake Washington Technical College in Kirkland, WA, for students age 5 through 13.

Horace Mann Math Challenge

Sponsored and funded by our HMPTSA

Students from grade 1 to grade 5 are invited to participate. Winners are drawn randomly from answer submissions and announced on Monday.
