Happy New Year! I trust everyone had a restful break.

I have a special invitation for all of you. Every month at the LWSD Board meetings a school presents on student learning, goals and school culture. This month is Horace Mann's turn. I will be making a presentation to the board on Monday, January 14th, at 7 PM in the Board Room at the Resource Center (The district office located in Redmond Town Center). The room will be decorated with Mann student work and my presentation will be about 15 minutes in length. I would love to have your attendance and support if you can make the time to attend. No RSVP is necessary, just show up.

Lake Washington PTSA Council Reflections Reception

The Lake Washington PTSA Council Reflections reception will be held on January 11, 2013 from 6-8pm at the Lake Washington Resource Center.

Everyone is welcome. We hope to see all of you at the reception.

Lake Washington School Board Meeting

Horace Mann Elementary will be the host school at January's Lake Washington School Board meeting on January 14th at 7pm, with a presentation given by our Principal, Megan Spaulding. The meeting is open to the public so feel free to attend and support our school. It is held at the district offices at Redmond Town Center in the Board Room.

Meet the Specialist Teachers at Horace Mann

They will be presenting at the next Horace Mann PTSA meeting on January 17th at 7pm. This is your chance to hear about what your kids do at Music, Library or P.E. Maybe even the secrets to how your kids learn all those songs they sing so often! And ask questions or chat informally with the specialists, since you don't usually meet them at Conferences.

Explorer Community School Information Night 2013

Lake Washington School District parents are invited to Explorer Community School's Enrollment Information Night - Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 6:30pm at the Emily Dickinson school commons - 7040 208th Ave. NE Redmond, WA.

Explorer is a Lake Washington School District choice elementary school located on the Emily Dickinson campus in Redmond. One of three choice elementary school programs in the Lake Washington School District, Explorer offers a small elementary school environment staffed by three certified teachers in multi-aged classrooms grades one through five. Explorer's curriculum promotes academic excellence, strong self esteem, a love of learning and a belief in the importance of community. Parent volunteers are vital to the school's success in meeting these goals and a high level of parental involvement is required.

Attendance at this evening information night is highly encouraged for all families who wish to enroll a student for the 2013/2014 school year. Following the information night presentation, you will have the opportunity to sign up for a school tour which is mandatory for new applicants and for maintaining spots on our waiting list. We are unable to offer childcare; therefore this is an adult only evening.

Sealant Day 2013

The Lake Washington dental assisting program is hosting their 19th annual Sealant Day program being held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Lake Washington Technical College in Kirkland, WA, for students age 5 through 13.

Horace Mann Math Challenge

Sponsored and funded by our HMPTSA

Students from grade 1 to grade 5 are invited to participate. Winners are drawn randomly from answer submissions and announced on Monday.
