Who's Who at SuzukiMusic?
Our Administrators:

Michelle Iznardo, Artistic Director
Michelle is a Musicianship teacher at SuzukiMusic  who has been involved with the school since 2009. She is a private piano teacher and is getting ready to start her Clinical Psychology Master's program.  As Artistic Director, Michelle's main roles are to maintain the Suzuki philosophy and create a unified vision for the school while leading the faculty; handling all group class related affairs as well as all daily business for the school; overseeing budget planning; hiring new faculty; assigning teachers to courses; student placements; and finally, responding and resolving any constructive comments from teachers, parents or staff. Feel free to contact her at any time at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns!

Diana Lam, Assistant Artistic Director
Diana has been flute faculty with the school since 2010. One of her favourite things about the Suzuki method is bringing the students together in group classes. You can recognize her by her always changing colourful hair.  As AAD Diana is responsible for coordinating school wide events and senior programs. She also helps as needed to support the rest of our administration.

Welcome to the 2015-2016 School Year!

Although the weather lately would make us feel like we are still in the middle of summer, a new school year has begun and we would like to give a warm welcome to our new and returning students and families to SuzukiMusic.

We have an exciting year of creating music, memories and friends ahead of us.

A message from our AD, Michelle Iznardo:

Dear families,

Welcome to our new school year! As part of the artistic programming, we have a school theme each year, which we try to incorporate in performances and activities. There are many exciting plans for the students this year and I hope you will all enjoy them.

Our theme this year is: "Growing Together Through Music".  As we learn to play an instrument, we are constantly growing as musicians, but we are also educating a really beautiful human being. With this in mind, I would like to invite you all to share your music in order to connect with and get closer to those around you. You and your music will transform as you learn new techniques and play new rhythms, and the world around you will come together with the sound of each note :).

New Parent Orientation Sessions:
Our Parent Orientation sessions are especially for new families to our school.  You can expect to have many of your questions answered and gain a better understanding of how our school runs.
Sessions take place on:

Saturday, September 19th and 26th
Time: 10:00am - 11:30am
Location: Canterbury HS

Please note, these orientation sessions are for parents ONLY and we urge you to attend both sessions.

Please bring a notebook or device to take notes during the sessions.

Please note that the main entrance is the only unlocked entrance. Parking is available at the side and back of school.  Please do not park in fire lane as cars do get towed from there.   When you arrive please come to the front desk in the main lobby to sign in.

Faculty Benefit Concert 2015

Mark your calendars!

This year's Faculty Benefit Concert to raise money for the Bursary Fund will take place on:

Sunday November 1st at 3pm at Emmanual United Church, 691 Smyth Rd.

Our dedicated faculty donate their time to rehearse and perform for us. This is an excellent opportunity for students to see their teachers in action and for the general public to enjoy a high quality concert with high caliber musicians working together and raising money for a great cause.

Volunteers Needed!

Gain valuable experience as a member of the Board of Directors, meet new people, share professional expertise.

Contact Susan Wooltorton at [email protected] for further information about applying for a position on the Board.

Volunteers make the World Go Round

How can you help?

Since our school is a non-profit corporation and registered charity, we could not function without the dedication and support that is given by all of our parent, student, faculty and community volunteers, year after year.  Look for sign up opportunities for group class Saturday volunteers in the next weekly emails to fill roles at the Front Desk, pizza table, cafeteria doors and more.

You can contact Susan directly for any information regarding volunteering at [email protected].

GCWCC
A reminder to our SuzukiMusic members who are Public Servants and would like to direct their donations toward our school, the launch of the Government of Canada Workplace Charity Campaign (GCWCC) began on September 3th this year.

Through the GCWCC, public servants can support any registered Canadian charity of their choosing, including our school. Our special thanks to those of you who have chosen to direct your donations toward SuzukiMusic.

 Coming Soon!  Yoga for parents!

One of our SuzukiMusic parents, Laura Thomas, is a newly certified Yoga Instructor and she has offered to provide monthly yoga classes for parents as they wait for their students during their morning musicianship classes.

Laura will be offering classes at 5$ per class per adult.  She is volunteering her time and all revenue will go to our school!  Thank you Laura for this exciting initiative!

More details to follow - watch your weekly email for dates, times and locations of the first classes.

Note:  each participant needs to bring their own yoga mat to class.

Adult Ukulele Group 2015-2016
We are pleased to offer a
music class opportunity for parents again this year - a great use of the time spent waiting for your Senior musicians' classes to be finished every Saturday!
Parents and/or former Suzuki students are welcome to join Chantal LeBlanc at 2pm during group class days for the Adult Ukulele Ensemble class.

The fee is $40/term/student, and can be paid with four post-dated cheques, payable to SuzukiMusic, dated Oct 3 2015, Nov 9 2015, Jan 25 2016, and April 4 2016.

This class is for all levels of player, whether you're a brand new beginner or have already been playing; you'll also learn scales, solo and ensemble playing as well as basic music reading and transposition skills. You will need your own instrument in C6 tuning. For more information about the course, or to register, CLICK HERE.

"It all depends on how we raise them...
Beautiful Tone, beautiful heart"
-Shin'ichi Suzuki

Greetings Suzuki Parents!
I hope this letter finds you well and that you have had a great start to the new school year! In diving into my regular teaching schedule, I have been reminded of some of the fundamental principles of our method. In Nurtured By Love, Dr. Suzuki talks about how talent isn't born, but fostered through a nurturing environment. As he recounts how a child learns to speak Japanese, "a child's life develops on its own accord", each at their own pace. As a Suzuki teacher, I feel privileged to be able to aid in fostering ability in the students of our community. As Suzuki teachers, we not only get to work with our students, but to develop close partnerships with our colleagues, parents as Home Teachers. Though we are given the task of teaching new concepts and fueling the learning process, it is you, the Home Teachers that are in the trenches, practicing with your children on the good, and not so good practice days! Without this constant effort, the work done in the lesson would not have nearly the amount of impact.
