President's Note

Dear NYSMEAns,

Only two weeks to go until our Annual Conference! Have you registered yet? It will be a great day, coSeiningmplete with keynote speakers Dr. Stephen Pekar and Kate Orff, field trips (including kayaking and seining), a behind-the-scenes ttour at the New York Aquarium, and much more! Please don't miss it; and please share this opportunity with your educator friends!

As I noted last month, this year's conference will feature  special opportunities for high school and undergraduate students. There will be student presentations, and Sean Russell, a leader in youth empowerment in marine education, will be coming to talk with NY students. Sean has organized Youth Ocean Conservation Summits that empower students to take action in their communities on marine-related issues.

Please encourage students to attend the NYSMEA Annual Conference. Share this opportunity with the students, teachers, parents, and professors you know! The student rate for the full conference is just $25, with need-based financial aid available to help all interested students attend.

To support these scholarships, we are soliciting donations from NYSMEA members and associates.  Click here to donate any amount--every $25 you donate will support one NY area student.

Finally, thank you for your support over the last five and a half years. This will be my last The Strandline note as your NYSMEA president, as we will be electing a new president in the coming weeks. All the best and keep in touch.

Have a great weekend and I'll see you at the conference.

Sincerely,

Meg
