Speaking of seals, be sure to stay tuned for the details of our upcoming Seal Cruise on March 2nd. Word is that there already a lot of harbor seals in the area, waiting for us to watch them.

NYSMEA Trip to Louisiana: Planning for 2015

Unfortunately, we did not have a large enough group for this year's trip, so we had to cancel it. We are planning a trip for next year, February 2015

NYSMEAns in Louisiana
NYSMEAns on the bayou in 2012.

In 2011
and 2012, in response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, intrepid NYSMEAns braved the bayou-- including the nutria, Bourbon Street, and the gnats--to do great wetlands restoration work!

We are planning a trip for next year, February 2015.

Who:  NYSMEA members, working with local scientists, naturalists, and others

What: Hands-on work addressing the enormous problem of wetlands loss and other Gulf of Mexico environmental issues. Activities will include planting in greenhouses and in the field, touring facilities and wetlands, and meeting with local scientists. Expect to get dirty, learn a lot, and have fun.

When: February 2015 over the President's weekend break

Why: This is a great opportunity to learn more about national environmental issues, to volunteer, meet wonderful people, have a blast, and escape the cold!

How: The approximate cost per person will be about $550, including airfare, dorm lodging, most meals, transportation in Louisiana, and planned activities. NYSMEA will make all travel arrangements for you--you just have to be ready to participate!

Interested? Questions? We are trying to get an approximate number of interested parties for next year, so please email Meg.
