Health Affairs Blog Addresses NEJM Article on Lean in Healthcare
In a new blog post for Health Affairs, the Center's John Toussaint, MD, joins CMS' Patrick Conway, MD, and Center Board Member Stephen Shortell of the UC Berkeley School of Public Health, to address claims made in the recent New England Journal of Medicine article, "Medical Taylorism," that the Toyota Production System and lean healthcare have put the system ahead of man

The authors - all renowned industry experts - discuss the importance of engaging frontline staff, contrary to Taylor's original assertion, and drawing on the teaching of W. Edwards Deming. They also share real-life examples of TPS in action, and how it is impacting patients and staff.
