The Healthcare Value Network Welcomes Four New Members

This brings the total number of Network member organizations in the United States and Canada to 57. One advantage of membership is participation in Gemba visits. We have nine upcoming Gembas in the next 12 months.

Transparency Experiments

The Center recently kicked off two transparency experiments involving Healthcare Value Network organizations. It is our first opportunity to build comparative performance data dashboards that benchmark and support work improvement. Using data from the U.S. and Canada, we can examine performance measurement in private fee-for-service vs. national healthcare environments. 

  • Experiment #1: Participants voluntarily share patient-safety metrics in a comparative dashboard to identify best practices among lean organizations and accelerate their own lean journey. At first, this dashboard will be limited to those participating but will eventually be publicly reported to support value-based decisions by consumers.

  • Experiment #2: Participants build a healthcare value dashboard including quality, operational and financial performance measures collected from and shared with participating organizations. This dashboard is limited to members only and will be used as an internal improvement tool.

Recap: PHPR Summit
More than 150 leaders gathered in Wisconsin recently for a summit hosted by the Partnership for Healthcare Payment Reform (PHPR), a strategic partner of the Center.

The one-day conference refreshed enthusiasm for taking on the challenges of payment reform.

Keynote Valinda Rutledge, director of the Patient Care Model Group for the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI), explained bundled payments and how they can simplify healthcare for patients and purchasers.

Speakers also discussed topics related to provider and payer experiments going on across the state of Wisconsin, including:

  • Payment Reform: The Medicaid Perspective
  • PHPR Pilots: Accelerators and Key Learnings
  • From Episodes to Bundles: Two Sides of a Risk Coin
  • Integrated Payment Reform, Delivery System Redesign and Transparency
  • Medicare Payment Reform: CMS/CMMI Pilots

Participants shared positive comments about the summit's takeaways and networking opportunities. "I left energized and enlightened," said Helen Zak, president and COO of the Center. "It certainly left me wanting to shine light on these experiments and others like them."
