Landscaping

It's Time To...

Plan for enjoying your Spring garden:

We seem to be enjoying an early and beautiful start to Spring.   With all of this nice weather it is a great month for getting your spring gardening under way.

  • March is a good time to transplant shrubs. You can move them as soon as the soil is workable, but before buds have swelled or broken open.
  • March is also a good time to fertilize those shrubs.
  • Divide and transplant summer blooming perennials now and fertilize established ones as soon as new growth appears.
  • Fertilize tulips as foliage appears and make another application after flowering. Fertilize all other spring-flowering bulbs after flowering with bone meal or bulb booster.
  • If weeds appear in bulb beds, remove them by hand rather than using a tool that can damage the bulb base.
  • Remove mulch covers from roses, azaleas, clematis vines and other tender shrubs once nighttime temperatures rise into the 30s (but re-cover them if temperatures drop).

Before & After

The above picture shows the Before & After of a front entry we had the privilege to complete.

The homeowners had your typical, generic front entry stoop off of the driveway.  With their traditional brick front home, they felt something was lacking.  After meeting with them we came up with the idea to enhance the look of the front of their home and create an inviting entry to the residence.

The transformation involved laying Full Color Flagstone in a mortar bed on their new concrete landing and step.  The look is further enhanced by the traditional red brick border set in mortar to follow the curve of the entry landing..

Ever thought about refreshing the front entry of your home?  Contact Northampton Nursery, and we will start helping turn your dreams into reality.  It is EASY to start the process, just reply to this email letting us know to contact you and we will.

Northampton Building Solutions - Daylight Savings Reminders
4 Things to do around the house when you set your clocks forward

One added benefit of Daylight Savings Time is that it can serve as a friendly reminder to take care of some other important tasks around the house which should be done at least twice each year.

Replace the battery in your smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector:
We have all heard this one before but please take the few minutes needed to test your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors and replace the batteries.

Clean the fireplace:
Did you use your fireplace this winter?  It is a good time to wipe down the walls and clean out the ash.  Maybe consider calling in an expert to inspect the chimney and clean the flue so you are ahead of the game for next winter.

Change your filters:
Replace the filters in your heater and air conditioner.  Also, consider scheduling a service and maintenance on your system.  Like your car, regular maintenance of your hvac system will help it run better and last longer.

Flip your mattress:
Do this every time you change the clocks to promote even wear.
