Memorial Day is May 26th!

All we have of freedom,
All we use and know,
This our fathers bought for us
Long, long ago

Next weekend, we celebrate the unofficial start of Summer and after the winter we just went through we are sure everyone is looking forward to a long beautiful Summer.

Please, take some time to remember all of those who have sacrificed in the past and those who are still sacrificing today on our behalf.

Landscaping

Tips from the Pros

Brighten things up with Annuals
A great, and easy, way to to freshen up your landscape is to add color with annual flowers.  A neat trick to add that splash of style, use hanging baskets.  Not the way you always have, but remove the planting from the basket and plant it in your landscape.  When planting annuals in the soil of your garden, it's best to gently loosen the roots up a bit to stimulate stronger root growth. And always water right after planting to ensure the soil will settle snugly around those roots.

It's Time To ...

Kick it into high gear!

Summer's almost here, and it's time to tend to your garden and landscape. There's lots to do.
  • Now's the time to divide overgrown perennials and sharpen their profiles. At the same time you can replant the extra pieces in areas you want to dress up.
  • Prune spring flowering shrubs now too, but only AFTER the flowers fade.
  • Mulch all landscape beds and trees. It will boost beauty and give you a head start keeping weeds down.
  • You can plant tender plants outdoors after the danger of a last frost is past.
  • If you mow your own lawn, make sure your mower blade is sharp.

Before & After

MasterpieceKitchen transformation!

The above pictures show the Before & After of a Kitchen renovation we had the privilege to complete.

The couple had a kitchen that was dated and they were looking for a better use of the space.  Removing the 1980's style builder grade cabinets and installing new cabinets was just one step in the process.  We added a new subway tile backsplash, with a nice mosiac behind the sink.  The new granite countertops and new laminate flooring complete the refreshed look from floor to ceiling.

They are now able to enjoy a modern, functional kitchen with a classic look.

HomeImproveHVAC Maintenance tips

After the long winter we just experienced, the good news is that the beautiful days of summer are right around the corner.  With the arrival of summer we will soon find ourselves using our air conditioning.  In order to prepare, here are a couple of steps you can take to hopefully enjoy the summer in comfort:

  • Probably the single most important step that a homeowner can do to maintain the performance of their system is to clean or replace the air filter EVERY month.
  • Before each cooling season, it is recommended that central air conditioners get a professional tune-up. This is the biggest step to preventing major malfunctions in an AC unit.
  • Every month, especially during the summer months, remove any leaves or debris from outdoor condenser units.
  • Keep vegetation at least 2 feet away from outdoor units on each side and above. Aim grass clippings away from the unit when mowing the lawn.

One other budget friendly tip is to raise the temperature settings. Each degree of temperature could represent up to 9 percent savings in cooling costs.

Call your HVAC company to ask about getting a tune-up on your system, it's an important step.  If you don't have a relationship with a HVAC company, give us a call or email and we can put you in contact with a good company.
