Bromont World Equestrian Games Cancelled

After weeks of turmoil, the international governing body for equestrian sports (FEI) confirmed Friday that Bromont, Que., will no longer be hosting the World Equestrian Games in 2018.
"This is a very sad moment for equestrian sport, and possibly even for our reputation as a province or a country to hold major events," said Richard Mongeau, executive director of Cheval Quebec, a non-profit organization with 20,000 members in the province.

Did you Know...

It has been a busy stormy summer so far.

While statistics aren't available for the number of horses killed annually by lightning, windstorms or wild animals, it does happen. Adding on Members Named Perils (MNP) insurance to your membership for the low cost of $22 provides coverage to a maximum of $10,000 for any horse(s) you own in the event they were to die from one of the perils named in the policy, some of which are fire, lightning, transportation accident, attack by a dog or wild animal, windstorm, drowning, and there's more. Losses are restricted to one claim per member year.

MNP can be added to your existing membership. Simply
log in and select "Add Insurance, Ride and Drive or Donations to Existing Alberta Equestrian Federation Membership" or give us a call at the office (1-877-463-6233 or 403-253-4411). We would be happy to help you!

Recreation & Trails
Wild Rose Trail Ride - Cancelled

It is with regret that the AEF made the decision to cancel the annual fundraising Wild Rose Trail Ride that was to be held at Running Reins Ranch on Sunday, September 4, 2016. This is due to various factors and considerations including lack of interest, current registrations, low sponsorship, budget and the current economic situation in Alberta.

We sincerely appreciate the efforts of those that wanted to support this fundraising initiative and thus, therapeutic riding groups in Alberta.

Thank you for your support of this event over the past years and we hope to be able to offer more fundraising opportunities in the future.

McGillivray Trail Temporary Closure

The Backcountry Trail Flood Rehabilitation Program with Alberta Environment and Parks will be temporarily closing the McGillivray Trail due to construction. It is asked that the public stay out of the area until the work is completed.

Please click here to view the map. The trail will be closed between the intersection of Spoon and Vicary to just north of the entrance to the Bible Camp.

Help Create a Stronger Case for Equine Interests on Alberta's Crown Land

The Alberta Government is re-writing the rules for the use of crown land and it is essential that our voice be clearly heard. The Alberta Minister of the Environment has expressed an interest in supporting more non-motorized recreation, but our case is weakened by the absence of data on the economic and social value our activities provide. This puts us at a disadvantage as compared to other interest groups.

With the help of AEF the Outdoor Council of Canada is conducting research into the social and economic value non-motorized outdoor activity provides to Alberta. We need your help to find out just how much our activities provide to the Alberta economy, so we are asking you to take 15 minutes of your time to fill in an online survey. (All answers are strictly confidential and are stored on a secure server at the University of Calgary).
