The Importance of Water
Water is the single most important nutrient in the management of horses. Equines will limit their water intake to the point of dehydration if the quality of drinking water is compromised. They may also limit their intake of water from a new source, such as when moved to a new location.

4th Annual Wild Rose Trail Ride
The AEF is hosting the 4th Annual Wild Rose Trail Ride (WRTR) at Red Lodge Guest Ranch in Bowden, AB on September 5, 2015. This annual fundraising event is organized to raise funds and awareness to support local non-profit therapeutic riding association.
Across the province, the therapeutic associations' great work in helping adults and children enjoy the beneficial relationship with horses in a safe and positive environment makes them 'unsung' heroes in Alberta. Without a doubt, these associations have provided many positive learning and growth opportunities and also provide an important recreational and mental break. These associations have strict guidelines in working with vulnerable people. The well-trained horses with quiet dispositions and dedicated and experienced volunteers ensure a positive and enhancing experience. Each year, three AEF member associations benefit from the funds raised by this event.
Thank you in advance to those who contribute to this great cause and event.

Did You Know AEF Offers Members Named Perils
Summer is here! Along with summer comes the risk of storms as well as increased wild animal activity.
While statistics aren't available for the number of horses killed annually by lightning, windstorms or wild animals, it does happen. Adding on the Members Named Perils (MNP) insurance does provide coverage for any horse(s) you own in the event they were to die from one of the perils named in the policy, some of which are fire, lightning, transportation accident, attack by a dog or wild animal, windstorm, drowning, and there's more. MNP provides coverage to a maximum of $10,000 and can be applied regardless of the number of horses owned. Losses are restricted to one claim per year.
MNP can be added to your existing membership at any time. Simply log in and select "Add Insurance, Ride and Drive or Donations to Existing Alberta Equestrian Federation Membership" or give us a call at the office (1-877-463-6233 or 403-253-4411). We would be happy to help you!
For more information on this coverage or any of the other optional coverages which can be added to your AEF Membership at any time, check out our Optional Insurance page or the Capri Summary of Insurance, or give Capri Insurance a call directly at 1-800-670-1877.

With Deepest Sympathy
The AEF would like to extend our deepest sympathies on the passing of one of our members, Sandra Hodgins. Sandra passed away on her birthday, June 18 after a brave battle. She was a vivacious, kind and lovely lady who always had a ready smile and was a huge supporter of the dressage community. Our hearts go out to her family and friends during their time of sorrow.

It's that time of year again, to pack up the trailer and horse(s) and hit the open trails! Hikers, cyclists and horseback riders are sharing the trails more and more each day, and some hazards can arise when these various outdoor enthusiasts are out on the same trails. If everyone practices good trail etiquette and shows consideration to others, a better outdoor experience can be shared by all.
