The Total Compensation Discussion.
As companies change and grow, so too should their compensation for their employees. When most people think about compensation, the ideas of hourly rate or annual salary are what come to mind. As an employer however, total compensation means much more.
Compensation packages also include components like vacation days, paid time off, sickness policies and group benefits to cover health and dental expenses.
If the idea of compensation remains in the salary/hourly rate area, then opportunities can be missed to ensure you are attracting and retaining the best staff for your business. Employees are savvier these days. They know that a raise of $1000, only means about $700 in their pocket after taxes and deductions. However, if you were to instead put $1000 into a group benefit plan, your employee receives every dollar of that, tax free. Group benefit programs are a great way to ensure that the entire increase you provide your employees, flows through to them in the most complete tax efficient manner possible.
Another benefit of a group benefit program is that you as the employer, are able to write off every single penny you invest in the program as a business expense at the end of the year.
So when considering changes or increases to your employee's compensation packages, be sure that you consider the benefits, you and your staff receive with the implementation of a group benefit program.
If you would like a complementary review of your current program, or if you would like to discuss options and costs of a new program, please feel free to contact us for information at any time.
