Olds College Equine Alumni Celebrate with the
Equine Centennial Games
The Equine Centennial Games have been planned to honour the role of equine programming in the history of Olds College as part of the celebrations for the Olds College Centennial Anniversary in
2013. The Games have been organized with equine alumni in mind. They are an opportunity for past students of all equine programming to come back to the college and relive those wonderful college days. The Games, scheduled for April 30, May 1 and 2, include three days of activities that will provide opportunities for all alumni to be involved.
April 30- Full day clinic given by well known Centered Riding clinician, Peggy Brown. She will spend most of the day doing demonstrations and audience participation activities but has left some time for an English and a Western riding clinic. This day will end with a Wine and Cheese reception for all Games participants.
May 1 and 2- Performance portion of the games. Alumni will compete in teams of three: an English rider, a Western rider and a Jeopardy player. The riding component of the games will be completely free style. There will be jumps/obstacles with incremental values set up in the arena as well as required maneuvers to be performed. Each rider will have three minutes to ride. How riders incorporate the jumps/obstacles and the maneuvers and what more they add will be totally up to them. Creativity and enthusiasm are encouraged for this event. The Jeopardy component of the Games is based on the classic TV show and will require some thought and preparation. It will include information that was taught in the equine programs as well as some questions about Olds College itself.
The entire event will wrap up with a celebration and awards luncheon at noon on May 2 in the college Alumni Center.
The Olds College Equine Centennial Games promises to be a fabulous, fun event for equine alumni and a wonderful opportunity for them to revisit the college and to help celebrate our 100th anniversary. For more information, contact Marion Anderson at (403)556-3869 or manderson@oldscollege.ca or visit our Facebook page Olds College Equine Centennial Games. Registration forms are available on the Olds College website www.oldscollege.ca under 2013 Centennial Events, Centennial Shop.
