Thank You to all that came out to the AEF Wild Rose Ride on September 16, 2012

The 1st Annual AEF Wild Rose Ride held at Rafter Six Ranch Resort September 16th 2012 was a huge success!!

We want to thank all of the participants for coming out and enjoying the beautiful weather and gorgeous scenery. We also
want to thank all the volunteers and staff for making the day run without a hiccup. And a very special thanks goes to the Cowley family and their great staff and trail guides at Rafter Six Ranch, we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful facility to host our first trail ride.

This trail ride raised money for AEF affiliated Therapeutic Riding Assocations and we are most honoured to be able to help these groups that generously assist mental, physical and emotionally disabled people enjoy the world of horses.

Thanks so much to everyone and we will have lots of photos coming soon!

Equine research at Guelph could be slashed by 50% in 2013

Funding for equine research at Canada's University of Guelph will be slashed as much as 50 per cent in 2013 due to the Ontario government's decision to end the Slots at Racetracks program, says Dave Briggs, publisher of The Canadian Sportsman magazine.

On Sept. 6 in Briggs' weekly harness racing column in the Guelph Mercury newspaper (www.guelphmercury.com), Dr. Jeff Thomason says 80 per cent of Equine Guelph's research funding comes from the horse racing industry. Much of that money will disappear once slot   revenue is gone.

Here is the column as published:

Equine specialists studying at University of Guelph wonder whether jobs will exist.

As students head back to the University of Guelph this week, those pursuing a career in equine medicine or other equine-related pursuits are faced with a less-certain future given the government's decision to cancel the Slots at Racetracks

program.

When the slots program ends next March, some 30,000 full-time equivalent jobs will be at risk within the horse racing industry itself. A severely diminished industry will also mean there will be fewer horses requiring veterinary care.
