The Indiana Conference's Lay Leadership Team offers an opportunity to express thanks and praise to God by asking laity to submit an original sermon manuscript for judging. This contest is open to all lay people in the Indiana Conference.
Following the theme of Indiana's 2016 Annual Conference Session, the theme for this year's manuscript contest is "Be Hope," based on Romans 5:1-5 and Jeremiah 29:11.
The winning sermon manuscript will be presented during the Annual Conference's Laity Session on Thursday, June 9. Manuscripts should be no more than 15 minutes in length. Entries will be judged based on creative and original development of the theme, but could be eliminated due to length.
Manuscripts need to be mailed to Doris Clark, 7504 Normandy Blvd., Indianapolis, IN 46278 or sent by email to dfc49@att.net.
The manuscript must be accompanied by a cover sheet or letter that includes the writer's name, address, phone number, email address, local church name and district. Entrants are asked not to include any personally identifying information in the manuscript itself since it will be assigned a number and judged anonymously.
All entries must be received no later than May 2 and the winner will be notified by May 20.
For additional information about the contest, please contact Anthony Swinger, Central District Co- Lay Leader, at anthonyswinger@yahoo.com or call 317-372-4991.

Does your church have a mental health ministry? Whether or not you do, there are people in your pews and your neighborhood affected by mental illness.
1 in 5 adults experiences a mental health condition every year. Recovery is possible with the support of friends, family, doctors, and your community, but it doesn't have to be as hard as it is for most people today. How is the church making a difference in helping people connect to life-changing mental healthcare? How can we do better?
United Methodist seminary student Violet Ricker has organized a conference at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago to bring together leading voices on welcoming all people into our churches, ending the stigma of mental illness, and advocating for improved access to mental healthcare.
The Faith.Hope.Life. Conference will feature pastors, experts in the field, and leading advocates for education about mental health issues to empower Christians to better love our neighbors. United Methodist Pastor Cheryl Magrini will be a featured speaker sharing her own story of living well with mental illness. Registration is $50 (only $20 for students and veterans) and includes breakfast and lunch on April 1 and 2 and all workshop sessions. Sunday, April 3, United Methodist congregation Urban Village Church of Hyde Park / Woodlawn invites everyone to a special service focused on mental health. For more, visit Faith3.org/mentalhealth
