Caring for neighbors in need

Walking to end hunger!

Sunday, May 5, was a gorgeous Spring day, made lovelier by Friendship Service Center supporters who showed solidarity for their hungry neighbors by participating in Foodshare of Greater Hartford's 30th Annual Walk Against Hunger.

As a benefitting
agency, 80 percent of the funds designated to the Friendship Center helps to feed our emergency shelter residents and community kitchen patrons. The remaining 20 percent benefits Foodshare of Greater Hartford.

Communitywide, Foodshare grossed $638,000, overstepping the original goal of $625,000.

Okay Stampers Award 2013
Okay Stampers team captains Tom Keane (left) and Ray Dupont (center) receive congratulations from Gerry Waldo, kitchen director, Friendship Center.
Kudos to the Okay Industries "Stampers Against Hunger."  They were recognized this year by Foodshare as the highest performing team in Foodshare's Business category.  They raised a total of $6,109.
Thanks also to our friends at First Church of Christ in New Britain, whose "Sneaker Sunday" proceeds directly benefitted the Friendship Center as well.
The results of this year's Walk were our all-time best effort.  We are so grateful for the growing support of this project, and look forward to many more walks to come.

The Walk is always the first Sunday in May, so mark your calendars for Sunday, May 4, 2014.  We'll see you there!
