THE AUGUST BLOW-BY-BLOW
Greetings!
Welcome to our August newsletter - better late than never! The summer cruising season is definitely upon us, and can you think of anything better than cruising around with family and friends? Not us! At this time of the year, there are few finer things in life than grilling up treats on a BBQ mounted on your stern rail.. but have you ever tried grilling corn on the cob? Check out our Barbeques page for our three favourite corn-grilling methods.

Seafarer's Gossip
Pssst.. Did you hear? Raymarine bought Tacktick! Does this mean Raymarine will be incorporating Tacktick's impressive wireless instrument technology into their own line of products? We'll let you know if and when developments occur...

What is Marelon?
While perusing our plumbing aisle, no doubt you've noticed our selection of Marelon fittings.. or maybe not, since they look like plastic. However, Marelon offers the light weight of plastic with the strength of carbon fibre so you can use it under the waterline. Even better, it saves you the cost and possible corrosion of bronze.
We've got a great video about Marelon and a quick comparison of materials on our Plumbing Fittings page.

Poll Results!
Last month we asked "Have you practiced a 'Man Overboard' drill within the past 5 years?".. and the results are in: - No, never (27%)
- Not within the last 5 years, but I did prior to that (10%)
- Yes, but not with a live person - we used a fender, lifejacket, etc (56%)
- Yes, with a live person in the water (7%)
That's pretty good.. but there's plenty of room for improvement. We hope more of you will practice your drills - your life might one day depend on it!

Staying on the Solid
It can be incredibly difficult to keep your eye on someone if they are knocked into the water. With the sun in your eyes, deep troughs between the waves, or if the victim is unconscious and lying low in the water, finding overboard crew can be nearly impossible in many situations.
We've put together more advice about how to stay on board on our Tethers, Harnesses, and Jacklines page. Check it out!

We're also happy to announce that after many years of plugging away in the garage and yard, Dave has finally launched his prized (and modified) Olson 40, called "O'ffliction 40". Kingston boaters are expected to see her stern on the race course later this summer. If you'd like to see her bow, come by the marina.
We hope you enjoyed this newsletter! As always, our web site is www.pridemarine.com, but you can drop by the store or give us a ring toll-free at 1-888-732-8883! Cheers!
