Tutorial: Spool Shackles

Tylaska Spool Shackle
Spool shackles (a.k.a. dog bone shackles) have become a mainstay on some of the top racing boats, including the ICAP Leopard (who boast that they carry absolutely zero metal shackles on board).

They work on the same "break the back" concept as a bowline; you can untie them no matter how stiff the line gets. However, they cannot be released while under tension.

The price point is pretty attractive; the polycarbonate (Lexan) Tylaska P4 is less than half the price of a comparable Wichard high-resistance snap shackle.

Just in case ICAP comes a' knocking for crew, you should learn how to use spool shackle beforehand! For a tutorial, click here!
Please visit our web site for more details at www.pridemarine.com. Preferably, drop by the store or give us a ring toll-free at 1-888-732-8883!

Sincerely,
