Greetings!

Greetings to all...summer is on the way!  In the next two issues of Reiki Inspirations, we are going to focus on hand positions that can support emotional healing.

Reiki and Emotional Healing

We all experience times of emotional distress. We may begin the day feeling positive and upbeat only to be "tripped up" by unexpected events---a sick child; traffic delays; a disagreement with someone; stress at work. Bigger events in our lives can cause emotional upheaval---being diagnosed with a serious illness; losing a loved one; going through divorce; financial difficulties. Big things and little things can throw us out of balance and cause us to lose peace of mind.

Reiki is a wonderful daily self-care practice that supports emotional healing. You can use these hand positions to help you quiet anxious thoughts, relieve stress, and calm your emotions. Reiki does not change what is happening in the world around you but a daily Reiki practice offers you a way to better manage those daily ups and downs.

Easing Tension

Tension headaches can result from emotional distress with that dull ache in our forehead or at the base of our skull. We may experience conflict at home or work; a quarrel with a friend; feelings of worry about children or aging parents. The moment to connect with Reiki is when you feel the beginnings of that headache.

Place one Reiki hand over your forehead and the other at the base of your skull. Begin to breathe and give intent for the Reiki to gently flow. Begin to feel that sense of calm as the headache begins to melt away.

"Just for today...I release all worry and anxiety."

Releasing Frustration

When we feel annoyed or frustrated, we sometimes clench our jaws or even grind our teeth at night. There are times when we want to "speak our piece" or "tell someone off". We may hold our emotions inside knowing that sometimes less said is better. However, the frustration remains and we experience pressure and discomfort in our jaw and throat.

Place your Reiki hands over your lower face, along your jaw line with your fingers pointing up toward your ears. Allow your face to rest in the cup of your hands. Again, begin to breathe as the Reiki helps you to release tension and calm your mind.

"Just for today...I release all anger and frustration."

Soothing what is "heard"

It's a noisy world out there and at times we can feel overwhelmed with the cacophony of sounds in our environment. Or perhaps we have received unpleasant news or experienced a painful conversation with someone. Sometimes we need to take a break from "hearing" or "listening" to re-center and balance ourselves. Reiki can bring mental clarity to many situations.

Place your Reiki hands over your ears and allow this healing energy to soften the noise both without and within; to quiet your mind and bring you to that peaceful place.

"Just for today...I will show love and compassion to myself and others."

Cultivating peace of mind

Cultivating that "oh so elusive" peace of mind on a daily basis can be challenging. Sometimes we feel like we have set sail on stormy seas and our boat is rocking up and down. Reiki Master Amy Z. Rowland describes a hand position called "The Chalice" which can help to quiet the mind and set our boats on calmer seas.

Place your Reiki hands in your energy field, just a few inches under your chin and throat. Imagine that your hands are a chalice and you are pouring light and love to this whole area with your hands. This position is very soothing and excellent to use as a way to manage daily stress. (Rowland, 2010) "Just for today...I am grateful for life's blessings."

Thank you for reading Reiki Inspirations.  The next issue will show you four more Reiki hand positions for emotional healing.  We wish you all a peace-filled, Reiki-filled summer!
Keep practicing!
