ANNOUNCEMENTS

From our Principal

Greetings!
When I first arrived at DES four years ago, the campus landscape was nice enough, and there was evidence of some young plants just waiting to mature. However, in the last four years, Mr. Tommy McNeese has poured a great deal of volunteer time and effort into making our grounds one of the most attractive in the school system. Additionally, in the last two years, we've also focused on our nature trail by supporting volunteer parent, Dan Geist, as he seeks to maintain and improve our trail. The result of such dedicated volunteers has resulted in great outdoor spaces that our teachers and students enjoy!

I encourage all DES Tiger Families to join us at our annual fall grounds day on September 17 at 8am. The grounds day is a time to meet new families while working elbow to elbow. Whether you are an excellent trash collector, weed puller, or planter, we have a job for you! I try to never miss a grounds day, and I've always been rewarded with a feeling of satisfaction while having fun.

This year, I will join Mary K. Morris and Renee Taylor in quest of the Master Gardener certification granted by the University of Georgia through Fernbank Science Center. Our team must plan, execute and grow a native garden on the school property. We have ideas of creating a pollinator garden near the organic beds, and an extension garden connected to the butterfly habitat outside the Media Center. Mrs. Morris, Mrs. Taylor and I are each required to submit 50 hours of work toward the completion of the projects. I am excited about the outdoor experience our project will potentially give back to our students.

Thank you to all the volunteers and DES supporters in our community! You are the ones telling our story and helping to make our school great!

DES! The Executive Council of the PTO has decided to use a new service supporting our website. It will provide all the great information our current PTO website has, but much more user friendly - especially when registering for events and submitting payments.

Those of you with students at Peachtree Middle and Dunwoody High will already be familiar with this service! Cara Engel, Grace Chang, and Lauren Middlebrooks are working diligently to get the online directory as well as online spirit wear sales up and running!  Stay tuned for more information!

Though the operation of the system is changing, the website will remain the same: www.dunwoodypto.com!  Thanks!

DES Online Directory

Hello Parents of DES!

On September 2, we will upload this year's PTO registration data (parent, child, email, and phone) into the ONLINE DIRECTORY.  This is a PRIVATE online directory only available to DES families.

If you would like to OPT OUT of this process, please send an email to: destechpto@gmail.com with email address and parent/family name by the end of the day on Wednesday, August 31. You will have the opportunity to verify and/or correct your data after the upload is complete.

Thank you!

Counselor's Corner

Friday, September 2 is College Colors Day! Students and staff around the nation will be wearing college gear to celebrate their commitment to higher education.

At DES, we are dedicated to helping all students become college and career ready. Help us in our mission of early college awareness by encouraging your child to dress up and participate. To make this day more meaningful, your child may select a college fact/trivia to share with their class.

We are looking forward to another great year at DES!

Crossing Guard Assistants Needed

Parents,

Administration has asked for a little assistance keeping pedestrians safe in the morning from our parents!

Please see the Sign Up Genius for more information and sign up if you are able to help!

School Store

We're looking for volunteers to help with School Store for the new school year!

The school store sells a variety of items, including:
  • School supplies - Pencils, lead replacement, rulers, glue, paper, pencil pouches
  • School-related items with Fun Themes - Pencil toppers, pencil sharpeners, smelly erasers and highlighters, multi-color pens, bookmarks
  • Many other items - Notepads, key chains, wallets, and small toys
  • Spirit Wear Items - DES clothes, water bottles, magnets
The store is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the cafeteria between 7:10 and 7:40am before school begins. The children LOVE the store and we hate to turn them away if we can't get through the line.

This store provides children experience with money skills, and all proceeds benefit the PTOThe success of our school store is entirely dependent on volunteers and works best when we have two volunteers at each shift.

It's also a great way to get in your volunteer hours before the work day starts!

Please consider signing up for one of the shifts at the following signup genius link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0949acad22a13-school
If you have any questions about what to do if you're new, please do not hesitate to ask!

Thank you!
