Greetings!
The State Department of Education has released Georgia Milestone test scores. Grade level data plus district/school comparisons can be seen by following the link on the Georgia Department of Education website. Data will also be shared to our stakeholders at Curriculum Night. Dunwoody Elementary students performed well, and earned the Governor's Silver award for achievement over a three year period. A banner hangs in our foyer to celebrate our achievement!
With all victories and successes, there is a time to celebrate and also a time to reflect. We are in the business of school improvement which involves making sure that every child reaches high growth. With that in mind, we've already started the process of analyzing areas of potential growth for the upcoming school year. Score reports for rising fourth and fifth graders will be given to parents at Open House (August 3 from 7:30 - 11:30 AM). Score reports for rising sixth graders will be sent to the middle school after August 5. Prior to August 5, rising sixth grade reports can be picked-up from Dunwoody Elementary beginning Monday, August 1.

Registration Day Information:
Though it seems like summer just started, registration day is right around the corner! We look forward to seeing all students and parents on Wednesday, August 3 from 7:30-11:30am. During this time, parents can ensure that forms required by DeKalb County are filed and correct while students reconnect with friends, shop spirit wear, drop off school supplies, and meet their teachers!
In an effort to raise money for the Tiger Fund as well as to limit long lines, you are able to pre-register from home! By completing this step AND donating $150 to the Tiger Fund, your family will receive a Fast Pass that allows entry into a separate line. Moreover, once the pre-registration is completed AND $150 donated, only the Proof of Residency and Transportation lines are necessary on Registration Day.
Please be sure to sign up for or update your information for the Online School Directory as well!
Also, payment of the requested $35 per student of Annual Dues will provide your child with the official DES shirt for 2016-2017! Teachers are requesting that each student have one of these shirts to help to ensure safety on field trips! These shirts may also be worn for spirit days and stem days throughout the year. You will be able to pick your shirts up on Registration Day!
Please bring with you: -
Proof of residency; you will need an original and one photocopy per child of at least one utility bill (gas, electric or water only) or a signed leasing agreement or mortgage contract to verify that you are at the appropriate school. Find more information here: http://dunwoodyes.dekalb.k12.ga.us/RegistrationInformation.aspx
-
Photo Identification (original and photocopy)
-
Check book/credit card/cash (for PTO registration if not already done, club registration, and spirit wear)
-
*NEW* Your license plate number (to receive a carpool number)
-
We look forward to another great year at DES! Thanks so much for your support, and please let us know if you have any questions! Many thanks to Andrew Ziffer, our Technology chair, for the countless hours spent over the summer working on the online registration!

DES Lunch Bunch Needs You!
Lunch Bunch is a group of volunteers who help out in the cafeteria during lunch. The volunteers help the children with their lunch needs such as opening up containers and wiping down the tables.
It is a great way to see your child at lunchtime and meet their classmates. The children love to see the parents help out and be part of DES.
Please consider helping out this semester. Your help is a big part of what makes DES such a great school.

Corporate Sponsors Needed
From Community Business Support:
Corporate Sponsors are still needed for 2016 - 2017. If you run a business or work for one that likes to support community initiatives, consider sponsoring our school! Sponsorship packages run from Bronze ($300) to Platinum ($2,500) and allow PTO to support our teachers and students through training and capital improvements. Many of our corporate sponsors are actually parents who are investing in DES. All sponsors receive brand awareness opportunities with our more than 800 families. To learn more, download this document, or you can contact Community Business Support Co-Chairs Shana Sullivan Sullivan0820@yahoo.com and/or Laurie Nichols chowning@comcast.net.
Thanks,
Shana and Laurie
